LAPORTE, IN — The LaPorte Cinemas closed again due to lack of business. It’s closed three times in three years and experienced numerous upgrades but the city’s only theater just couldn’t make ends meet.

Local theaters in Minneapolis closing in September
MINNEAPOLIS, MN — While some theaters have been making the jump to digital, others have not been so fortunate. The AMC Block E and the Cottage View Drive-in will most likely not be able to afford the conversion.

Twenty-two screen megaplex inspired by a Greek temple will open Fort Bend County in late December
FORT BEND, TX — Santikos Theatre is opening a 22-screen theatre later this year that’s modeled after a Greek temple. The county is even building new roads to access the entertainment complex that will also feature a bowling alley.

New Century twelve-plex to open on November 9 Cinedome 8 there will close
NAPA, CA — Century is opening its new 12 screen theatre in Napa in November which will ultimately lead to the demise of Downtown’s Cinedome 8. Alcohol will be served at the new theatre and they’ll feature some green amenities such as LED lighting and electric vehicle charging stations.

Former theater hit by fire
MANCHESTER, NH — The Empire Theater suffered an accidental fire last week. There’s no word on the future of the 100-year old neighborhood theatre that was under renovation.

Another attempt is made to reopen the long closed Fenton Cinemas
FENTON, MI — After two previously reported unsuccessful attempts to reopen the Fenton Cinemas which closed in 2008, a Kalamazoo couple which owns the Gull Road Cinema 5 there, Steve and Teresa LaFountain, are the latest people who are trying to reopen the closed cinema. But they need help raising $1 million for a down payment on the property as well as to make needed repairs. They hope that if they raise $250,000 that a bank would be willing to help them out.
