Leonardo da Vinci comes to theaters
Following in the footsteps of the Metropolitan Opera and Los Angeles Philharmonic, the National Gallery of London will be transmitting a tour of Leonardo da Vinci exhibit around the world. The HD virtual tour of the hit show will hit cinemas in February.

Former employee wants Toler Cinema reopened
BENTON, IL — A passionate former employee is trying to save the Toler Cinema. The theatre that AMC recently shut down, has meant so much to the area as a source of entertainment for the residents as well as the soldiers stationed nearby.

VOD rides to the rescue of Indie Film
With more and more success stories, independent film distributors are realizing that there’s a robust market out there for VOD. Recent releases like “Margin Call” and “Melancholia” have made at least half of their revenue from the platform instead of relying solely on theaters initially.

Smithsonian and Warner Bros. team up for movie theater
WASHINGTON, DC — Celebrating the history of film, the Smithsonian and Warner Bros. are joining forces for a new film series at the museum. In what’s expected to be a free program, they’ll present themed-series' focusing on subjects ranging from Humphrey Bogart to the Civil War. These will all take place in the renovated Carmichael Auditorium.

Franklin Theatre to be sold
ALLENTOWN, PA — After almost a century in the business, the Franklin Theatre was sold the other week. Its current owner, could not afford to operate it anymore and the new owner has not revealed plans for its future.

Appalachian Cinema moving towards city ownership
BOONE, NC — Since closing four years ago, the Appalachian Cinema has been in a state of limbo. Things are looking better though as it appears the city will be able to purchase it and then turn it over to the Downtown Development Association. The plan then would be the restore it to its original grandeur and make it a performing arts center.

Hope to restore Park Theatre
AVON, NY — There’s a growing movement to restore the Park Theatre but it still needs a new owner to bring it to fruition. There’s a Facebook Page dedicated to bringing it back, hopefully as both a cinema and a community center.

Front Street development may get theatre
HARTFORD, CT — There were high hopes for the new entertainment district at Front Street but none have become a reality, yet. It looks though like a movie theater will be part of it, with construction supposed to start in the next couple weeks. The theater will have a four screens with a mix of offerings.

Sittin' in the front row
In his blog in the Chicago Sun Times the other week, Roger Ebert discussed cinema seating preferences. He used to prefer middle but he’s gravitated towards the back over the years for easy bathroom access.
