  • Tribune Family Theater for sale

TRIBUNE, KS — The Tribune Family Theater in Greeley County is currently for sale. The current owners, the Zerrs and the Huddlestons, are ready to move on, and the community is both researching community-owned models and seeking individual buyers for the theater. The theater is a single-screen theater and currently shows films on the weekends.

The asking price is $30,000 plus any tax liability at the time of sale, and a commitment to continue running the theater as a family entertainment venue. In this small community, the loss of a movie theater would be very tough for the residents.

Interested parties should contact the Community Development Office at 620-376-2548 or .

    Sampson Theater seeks website advice

PENN YAN, NY — The Sampson Theater is looking for ideas and thoughts on designing a website for our theater restoration project. We are a small, grass roots organization and do not have a substantial budget to work with. We would like to introduce the world to our 1910 vaudeville house which is in the process of being converted for use by our local theater group and need an eye catching web presence to do so.

Do you have experience with such a “ground up” type effort? Did you build a web presence from scratch? What worked well for you? What should we avoid?

For direct comment, please contact Sandi at Many thanks!

  • Non-profit group in San Francisco area in need of a president and board members

A non-profit group in the San Francisco Bay Area whose mission is to save and restore a movie theatre with historic murals is in need of new leadership and board members. We need people with experience, drive, and passion as we are just shy of reaching our goal. Previous fundrasing experience is a must. This is a non-profit group and all interest must be non-profit as well. Please email me with your interest. Thank you.

    The New NY Drive-In

NEW YORK, NY — A new performance space is turning heads by providing an exclusive, upscale drive-in movie theater experience.

The storefront is about as wide as a city bus but not as long. The Falcon’s doors, when opened a crack, touch the walls.

The idea is to suggest, as far as practical in a space so small, a drive-in movie theater.

Patrons can go to 139norfolk.com, rent the Falcon (which seats up to six people snugly), and watch a DVD of a movie projected on a somewhat large screen. It costs $75 for three hours, including popcorn and the DVD. The rest of October is booked. But on Nov. 3 and 4, a special “Films That Destroyed New York” weekend is planned that includes the original “Planet of the Apes” (1968) and “Escape From New York” (1981).

  • Banning Fox sprucing up

BANNING, CA — A little bit of the old and a little bit of the new is keeping this small town theater open to a loyal audience.

Michael Frydrych wants to see downtown Banning thrive.

His contribution to that goal is preserving the Fox Cineplex, the historic movie theater on Ramsey Street that Frydrych has owned for 12 years.

Frydrych has upgraded the 79-year-old theater by putting in new seats and updating the screens and sound system.

  • The last night at the Park 11, Orlando’s oldest movie theater

ORLANDO, FL — The Park 11 recently closed its doors after years as a discount house and 43 years of lots of changes.

It was final call last night (Thursday) at the Park 11 cinema, the ancient multiplex that has been a part of Orlando-area movie going for 43 years. The Park, the place Walt Disney told Orlando what he was about to build on the outskirts of town, something that would change the city forever, will be partly-knocked down and become a Lifestyle Family Fitness Center (gym) sometime next year, acording to Arik Basso, manager of the property for Mainstreet Management.

Built as a stand-alone theater, a two-screener, in 1964, the Park became a triple, then jumped to 11 screens in 1991, eventually becoming the discount house it has been for years.
