  • How to increase revenue question….

Hello, I am considering purchasing a fully operational local theater that I am being offered. It’s a Quonset hut design (built in the late 1940’s) and single screen with just over 400 seats, concession stand, a couple of washrooms and a 12x12 separate (but attached) storefront. There is a stage infront of the screen. The building is very cool and retains all art deco styling.

It’s a popular theater and shows previously released films twice a night…one at 7:15pm and a different one around 9pm. It’s in a fairly trendy neighborhood that caters to the younger crowd.

Does anyone have any suggestions as to what other uses this place could have during the daytime hours? Also, a 12x12 storefront…any ideas? This is the only private theater in town and is well advertised….all I want to do is continue with the same operation (2 films for 5 bucks) but want to increase the bottom end. I am open to any insight! Thanks!

  • Art Theatre Update

LONG BEACH, CA — My recent news that the Long Beach Art Theatre was to close and resurface as a night club was, as the manager said to me: “the deal fell
    through.”

The marquee lights and neon sign are still shining in the night. I’m so glad. Long live the Art.
But now the “Rocky Horror” crowd will have to cross the bay to the liner Queen Mary for their
    toast and rice throwing escapades!

See you at the movies… Simon Overton

  • Chicago Uptown news?

CHICAGO, IL — I continually watch this site for any updated information on the Chicago Uptown Theatre. I have noticed on a photo through Google that there has been scaffolding erected on the front of the theater and plastic sheeting over the top. Can
anyone enlighten me with more information on what’s happening and better still more recent
    photos.

    Regards,
    Paul

    Reminder: Don’t repost copyrighted content!

This morning, we received an email from a newspaper asking us to remove several theater comments where someone posted the full text of newspaper articles.

While it may seem that it’s ok to post an entire newspaper article, it actually isn’t… so please remember to follow the guidelines below when making a comment (or submitting news) that includes a newspaper article.

    DO:
    – Include a link to the article on the newspaper’s website
    – Include a short summary about the article, preferably in your own words. (You can also quote up to a paragraph from the original story, but no more than that.)

    DON’T:
    – Repost an entire newspaper article
    – Post content without attribution — always include the source

  • Chalet Theaters Rescues Pioneer Theater

FALFURRIAS, TX — After a long time of being silent, Chalet Theaters is rescuing the once-grand Pioneer Theater in Falfurrias, TX. The theater has seen better days and the former owner ran it for 30 years before leasing it out to others. These people did not know how to run a theater and the folks had to go sit down only to get back up again to get their hot dogs and popcorn.

Chalet Theaters will redo the balcony and other aspects of the theater. It has many numerous designs inside. The first order of business is to equip the theater with state of the art projection and sound. The neon will be on soon again. With plans to show both English and Spanish movies, it will be a hit again to a town that needs it badly.

A picture of the theater can be found here:
