alas after 7 years of campaigns the owners have forced the leaseholders of the snooker hall to leave : if they start work by the 28th feb , this historic community building will be demolished

kevinp commented about Bow Tie Cinemas will use Technicolor's non-digital 3D projection system on Mar 7, 2010 at 10:44 am

i remember the “ over and under ” system in 1981 : silver screen and polarised/splitter lens being hired from an independent supplier in soho ( central london ) : we used it at Streatham Odeon in screen 3 : film was called “Parasite ” : quite effective and ( to the best of my knowledge ) not owned or invented by Technicolor ! so bar lens resolution improving and finer grain stocks, is it essentially the same process ?

kevinp commented about 5th Todd A0 festival st the Schauburg Cinema on Mar 8, 2009 at 9:17 pm

william, some validation in what you say : however : the Schauburg runs features off a cakestand in two parts on one DP 70 projector. obviously there is a lot of trust in the excellent team there.

also, there are fairly regularly shows over the States, check out the in 70 mm website .

seems the property developers have partially given in…. and allowed one of our stalwarts
James Hannaway ( rex berkhamstad ) to pop in and check the building out…

I worked there occasionally as relief projectionist in the evenings in the early 90’s.
The 1960’s Westars had very slow changeover shutters :they sometimes did a “wipe” across….
once, when i did a show for the birthday of film critic Phillip Berenson and friends we showed a fellini film that started off silent… then sound came through the projection box monitor…so all was fine….after a few minutes birthday boy arrived huffing at the projection door…quite high up…saying he knew the front was silent…but there was no sound at all….I stopped the show after going into the auditorium…and found that the speaker had been disconnected and wheeled away on the theatre stage…
