Nearly 25 years ago this was the event theater to go to for a big movie, whether it was indie or big budget. Nowadays it’s the empire 25 that is the event theater of choice.
For those seeing Hobbs and Shaw in Dolby, there is a trailer for Tenet which is being shown exclusively before this movie. I saw the leaked trailer online and it looks promising.
Hopefully rockaway gets it too as well as others in the area that have had the 2k imax projectors for nearly 10 years as that system is being retired. I remember it came out during the release of The Dark Knight for theatres that couldn’t afford a real imax projector and convert the screen into a larger screen with no masking issues at all and pumped up surround sound that has inspired copycats like Dolby Cinema and others.
went to see Hobbs and Shaw in theater #7 last afternoon at 5 and noticed they weren’t using the surrounds just the front three channels and the subwoofer. Picture had minor cropping and the picture flickered a bit yet it was very bright. Movie was enjoyable.
According to what i heard on social media, this theater is a huge improvement over the original despite having higher ticket prices and other amenities.
Saw Yesterday in theater #4. Masking was done right, the colors were good, and the sound mix was pretty good. According to IMDB, the 5.1 48khz DCP mix is a downmix of the Dolby Atmos track that was also used in larger venues and will be on the bluray. Film was shot on 8k and mastered in 4k. Crowd enjoyed the movie pretty good. The popcorn here is pretty good and the soda was decent.
Speaking of which Flix70, one of the scenes takes place outside the Dome pre-megaplex days. I saw the movie in regular 4k at AMC in Rockaway, NJ and noticed some bad masking at the top of the screen but nothing major. The picture was sharp and colors were bright while the sound mix is very good 5.1.
Saw stuber in auditorium 12 and thought that it sounded and looked good. Then I saw once upon a time in Hollywood in auditorium 3 and noticed the top portion was blocked off a bit but nothing major was visible like words. During some trailers the logos were cut off on the bottom. Sound mix was 5.1 and sounded great and the picture was good since it was shot on film and transferred to 4k for digital release. Crowd behaved and laughed during some scenes. This movie will become his biggest movie since django unchained. They need to renovate the seats especially in the lower level of the auditoriums.
Hopefully this theater will be the next to go laser imax after the renovations on the other amc nj imax theatres as laser imax offers better projection and sound than dolby scope.
I think it’s the same on the digital release

The film forum has their own youtube channel as well.
Mostly all of the smaller imax locations in amcs will get the laser treatment..
RIP Sunshine….
Did this theater show a 35mm print of OUATIH?
It’s already august and the theater is still open…

Saw good boys in the same auditorium and they fixed the issue somewhat crowd behaved and laughed a lot. This theater is in need of a makeover soon.
It’s kinda like Dolbyy Cinema at AMC where the sound is better than the imax yet the picture sucks
When will they get recliners in the remaining screens?
A few days ago people took shelter at this venue along others due to a false alarm which was actually a bad muffler on a bike.

This is the entrance to the dolby theater. Notice there’s no HD wall into the theater.

a replica of this theater was used during a scene of once upon a time in hollywood, among other theatres.
The outside of the theater was used for the latest QT movie.

I wish my local amc had the laser projectors as the current ones are almost a decade old.
