Mr.Pete would always look forward to see Western actor Dub Taylor on the Johhny Carson show.He would tape record it on his cassette recorder and always wanted me to hear Dub playing a instrument like his harmonica.Man, I miss that part of the business! Nick, thanks alot.I am going to find the Diane 29 Drive -in pictures of you and me exploring and the Kings Mtn. Drive-in.Maybe the BELMONT too. Thanks friend.
No but there aren’t many left. when I saw the first plattersystem I knew projectionists, trained men that could fire up carbons, make a change over, solve all kinds of problems in and out of the booth,The days were numbered,so much so, when I got out of the management side of the theatre business i got into IATSE Local 629 and became a stagehand. It wasn’t long before we were taking in the old projectionist Union,Sadly,Most of those men were not able to build shows. And retired.many died within a year or so.
i never Thought of it before, but while at a Drive-in in Tampa a lady pulled up with a handicapped child and while speaking to me gave me the sanme reason for going to the Drive-in in Tampa.A small World.
I wish theatres had talented men like Harold Hunt, but if he saw a booth today,he would probably walk out.A so-called projectionist today has never heard of carbon-arcs or a change over! And I don’t think progress is always good.Automation has put a lot of good people out of work.
Yes, GGC guy, seems like GCC was good about not building in enough storage space . We used the booth often to store cups,Pissed the Projectionists off,but we had no other choice.
I am not too sure if that was a projection booth.I have walked that lot a bit,Even took two one sheet frames from the old boxoffice,I thought the booth was part of the concession stand nearer the screen. The building shown in the picture was closer to the main road and certainly not centered of the screen.Seemed like a storage building to me.
I am glad the PARK is still standing. It looked to be a community playhouse when I went by.If you go to the ROSA DRIVE-in in Middlesboro it will give you an idea where it was, sorta out by the Mall if i remember,in that direction.
Thanks Arlin for a good intro.Any pictures?
Thanks Chuck1231.Great ads you do not see anymore.

Great pictures,Guys.thanks so much for putting them on.this is what the Theatre Business was all about years ago.
I have said it hundred times, you guys love BINGO.

Pretty good history except for the TOR JOHNSON non-sense.
Simply put over screening in many medium size cities to larger ones.Pure greed.
when you have a Theatre like this that seats 2600 people you really don’t need another theater in town.
Seems like a tiny theatre, but hardly with some 1800 seats. I have seen nicer looking Loew’s Theatres.
See 007 was on the Marquee.Loew’s had some nice buildings.
Thanks Nick,great to look at.
Thanks Nick.Sorry it took so long to read this.

Yes,you are right, sadly,I live way too much in another time concerning Movie theatres.
Rock Hill, like so many small towns near Atlanta, has become Charlotte,N.C.
THEATRE OWNERS take note only so much money one can spend at the theatre. If they are by-passing the Concession that is a KILLER !
