August 10 1971 and the PIX THEATRE has a MIDNIGHT SCREAMIERE with “HOUSE OF DARK SHADOWS”.Free personal Ghosts kits to be given out while supplies last. And Bumper stickers.{wouldn’t you like to have one of those gems.]
Odd the Marquee has “VANISHING POINT” which is fine, but the one-sheets look like they date back to the forties from what i could make out.Andy, you are right they lost a beautiful theatre.
Cwalczak that is an amazing story or those are some of the nicest people on Earth.Having dealt with the public in the business without the policy was often a nightmare on Sold out shows and I in live in the South where folks are suppose to be a bit nicer and laid back.
Thanks William,I was getting the info from the 1956 MOTION PICTURE ALMANAC.I have learned alot about how much that book can be off even placing Drive-ins in WRONG states. Please add all you can on the ENCORE Drive-in.And other stories.
July 5 1969 another crazy Triple feature,Maybe I don’t understand Drive-in Booking. “FINIAN’S RAINBOW”,“SHALAKO” [a pretty violent western },and “HOW TO COMMIT MURDER”.
Toward the early seventies they started to run a lot of X -rated movies. It was sorta odd booking the first feature would be X rated then the second feature would be"M" or “GP”.

Surprizes me they can even use Carbon Arcs.thought OSHA banned them.
i hope someone in that area of New York can get more info.I could barely read the old movie ad.
Summer of 1958 “VERTIGO” was doing great business there.
Often on Sunday’s they would run Spanish speaking movies such as:“LOS CACIQUES”.Several showings during the day in Cinema 2.
Wonder if “TOWERING INFERNO” played there?
Thanks. It is a Big Event even though I feel the crafts for sell maybe out do the honoring of Oliver Hardy.
Looking at Newspaper ads as far into the seventies it was selling itself as an AIR CONDITIONED theatre.Thought that was odd.
IOn Jan.6 1972 it was playing “TWO LANE BLACKTOP”.One feature only.
Thanks raysson.And smyjmy.
In the early seventies it was called the NEW ANSONIA THEATRE.

Love the marquee, thanks for the update jteafordd06.
Peak to what Justin. It has to stop at one point.I know you by-pass the concession stand.
What great Triple feature,Nick.Wish that would have been on the night we went. The Kids would have loved it.

1969 sees “PRIME OF MISS JEAN BRODIE” and “GUIDE FOR A MARRIED MAN” playing both rated “M”.
Playing in 1969 “THE LOVE BUG” and “BLUE SURF-ARI” both G rated.

Thanks Mike for a great comment.

I think it might have been a Cinecom Theatre during the 70’s.They had quite a few screens in that area.
What crying shame to split up this theatre.
Don’t like the placement of the Marquee. It was called also in the seventies a Fridley-Luxury Theatre.Must have dropped the “Luxury”.
