I remember when I was young that this theater always showed family, comedy, and indie films such as Aladdin (where I got a coloring paper and wanted to win something like free movie tickets but didn’t) while the Meadow six had the event films like The Fifth Element (probably the last movie I saw there before they expanded the Loews Wayne) back when Sony/Loews owned the chain before AMC ran it to the ground.
Has anyone attended a Met HD show at this theater? If so, is the projection like what someone sees on a PBS HD broadcast, and is the sound terrific? I would love to check a show out, but tickets are expensive and they usually sell out, as is the case with the most famous opera that’s now playing, Madame Butterfly.
a korean movie premiered exclusively at this theatre, the only one in the country and the first korean movie to be shown, according to the ny times. theater 4, the large one, was packed with a mostly korean american audience who watched the movie for one night only.
my dad brought his starbucks coffee cup into the theater to drink during a 4:10 showing of watchmen, which was very crowded with comic book nerds, scifi geeks, and young moviegoers. presentation was ok, minor splices, left channel was out but other speakers plus sub were working. too bad the star trek trailer didnt play but i saw it online, just like all the other trailers. fyi, madam butterfly will have an encore in a few weeks due to tomorrow’s sold out matinee.
that’s good news…I never been to this theater even though I used to attend schools in Ridgefield. This theater usually is packed with students from the Ridgefield School District as well as Ridgefield Park and surrounding communities.
the only show that’s sold out this weekend is sat’s hd met opera, madame butterfly. upcoming movies at this theater that will play next thursday at midnight are race to witch mountain, last house on the left, and miss march.
Youtube is also a good and easy example of showing full length movies, as several studios such as MGM offer movies such as Koyanniqatsi for free viewing on a small video screen for computer viewing.
This coming weekend, Watchmen will be on three screens and probably will be shown in theaters 8 and 9 and also theater 1. I plan on going on friday afternoon and hopefully unlike benjamin button the movie won’t be badly focused. If it were in IMAX it would’ve been more cooler. Recently last week AMC’s long-time CEO retired and was replaced by someone from Starbucks, a company whose stock is down due to the recession. Maybe he could ask his former company to sell some coffee at its profitable theaters.
Ever since the recession began in late 2007, attendance at my local theater has gone up even as traffic at the malls has slowed down and consumers are no longer spending money on dvds….just today, Blockbuster’s stock crashed as it seeked a firm for Chapter 11 restructuring as it faces competition from video on demand and Netflix.
I agree. 3D may be expensive, but hopefully I’ll see Monsters vs ALiens in 3D at this theater later this month. That movie and also Ice Age 3 were the only trailers that aired before the movie. As for the theater’s website, there’s a new toll free number by the company to access their showtimes… 1-888-AMC-4FUN.
saw coraline tonight. decent crowd. good presentation. some of the atm machines did not work, so i used one inside the theaters lobby and got the tix. this theater would have been more crowded if they showed that jonas brothers movie in 3d.
My mistake, it’s richie havens.
richie valens will perform at this venue this year.
BTW, has attendance declined at this theater since the Edgewater theater opened?
Thanks for the link….don’t forget to use tinyurl instead!!!
the new development in the meadowlands scheduled to open later this year.

my former co-worker who used to work at the east hanover location transferred to the rockaway theater. Hope he does well.
Not to mention the first three star wars movies that came out in the late 1970’s/early 80’s, as well as E.T. and Close Encounters and Jaws.

It was used on Quantum of Solace, which I’ll buy on bluray just to watch the movie the way it was shot.

i agree with you, giles.

This is very similar to the light brown dots on a 35mm film print that occasionally shows up every few minutes.

Closing the last of the AMC Rockaway theaters was a bad mistake not only by AMC, but also by Simon, both are which are affected by the recession.
One of my former co-workers from Employment Horizons recently lost his job at the theater because of the economy.
the only new movie this weekend is another street fighter movie, and several oscar winning movies are held over. no dlp.
