When Clearview bought this theater, in addition to the two screens, four new screens were added alongside installation of sound systems and raising prices. Has this place improved since my last visit (around 2006, when I saw Cars). I know other Clearviews in Morris have improved, like the Madison.
When the Secaucus theaters close, this theater will be the oldest Loews in North Jersey still running under AMC. Probably within 10 or so years, it will be replaced by a stadium seating theater attached to a mall like the one in Garden State Plaza or Essex Green or the new one opening up near Bridgewater Commons.
when it will be demolished…btw, paramus has enough gyms around. This was Paramus' cinema version of Yankee Stadium, and like the new Yankee Stadium, the old Paramus theater will still be remembered more than the one attached to a big mall.
Among the movies that played at this theater was a remake of The Fury, which I found in the old showtimes section on Google News' news archive. This is from the New York times, which you have to pay money to check out which movies were playing at the theaters. Under the newspapers, the theater was just simply ROCKAWAY SIX, then ROCKAWAY TWELVE underneath the AMC name. Back then, two phone numbers would separate the theaters. When the inner six closed, so did the phone number, leaving the outer six with the phoneline for showtimes and questions. This practice would go on to its successor, which is twice the size of the outer six.
this could be one of fourclose theaters where the Jets could go see a flick (the others are Clearviews in Morristown and Madison as well as the indie cinema in Chatham) if they’re not playing football. Also I read an online review of Indy 4 on Yelp and said that almost all the movie was not focused. Seems that AMC is not doing a good job of keeping those Loews theaters well kept as the AMC ones.
status should be changed to open since it’s open even though showtimes aren’t listed in the daily record (they only show times for the Sparta theater).
starting this weekend, Mamma Mia will be shown with on-screen lyrics that the audience can sing to, similiar to what Sing a Long Sound of Music did a few years ago. Other new releases include Bottle Shock, Bangkok Dangerous, among notable releases. Someday AMC needs to catch up on what Clearview is doing and that is digital projection for regular movies rather than NCM Fathom stuff. At least the new IMAX system will be ready for next year, when one of its screens will be turned into a mini-IMAX for the next summer season.
Not to mention Bluray, since the Bluray will be packed with special features. That bluray will also have the 7.1 surround and HD video of the 70mm print. I only saw it once on VHS in pan-and-scan; can’t wait to see the widescreen version. Too bad Disney doesn’t make animated cartoons like they used to anymore, save for a short or two (the recent one being a Goofy short played before National Treasure 2).
That sucks. According to the THX website, it still supports this theater after the AMC takeover. Which screen is DLP equipped? I know there’s only one out of 16 that is according to various showtime sites.
Sorry for the unclickable link….here it is again… http://tinyurl.com/5nqm64
BTW, I went to see “Pineapple Express” with my aunt in theater #2. Sound was great and projection was decent, quite a few people during a 11:35 showing. While at the box office, the cashier gave me a free ticket for that movie while my aunt paid for her own ticket. This is because I used my moviewatcher card. The only movie playing here that’s on more than one screen is Tropic Thunder. Nothing much has changed since I last visited here except that they now sell UNO pizza here finally!!!
You mean An Xmas Carol, KingBiscuits. That one will do well, probably replacing Polar Express as the next Imax annual holiday movie during Xmas. It will be released November of next year. Next year will also bring the second Night at the Museum movie, this one taking place at the Smithsonian, which in real life has its own Imax theater, which will probably not play that movie since it’s catered towards educational films.
This theater was one of a few in America to show the original Star Wars and its sequels, which were rereleased so many times at this theater, and the prequels, of which Episode I was digitally shown (despite being shot on 35mm).
This past weekend, Star Wars returned to Paramus, but this time in a year-old theater. It’s being shown in plain old 35mm and Dolby EX on one screen, and this one will fare worse than all six star wars movies at the old tenplex, not to mention the special editions and re-releases that made the franchise what it is today. Two 3-D movies are playing at this theater, the hit “Journey” and the flop “Fly Me To The Moon”.
Next year marks the 10th anniversary of the first 16 plex in north jersey. The last time I went there was nearly seven years ago. Since then, AMC took over the theater, added digital projection to one of its screens, and kept some of the traits from the General Cinema era. Do they still serve coffee at this theater? MY dad used to drink Starbucks at this theater!!!
Inside the theater, there used to be a fireplace to evoke that neighborhood feel; is that still there? There is only one box office stand compared with other Clearviews I’ve been to, and the entrance between the front and the box office has posters for future movies. The lobby has a decent candy stand, along with a few arcade machines and poster stands. Out of all the screens in this theater, I like the two with digital sound. Theater 1 has DTS, while theater 2 has Dolby Digital. The other screens have Dolby Stereo. This theater, if it doesn’t close, will become the oldest theater in Clifton.
BTW, when is 24 Hr Fitness scheduled to open? There was an online petition to save the tenplex but sadly it’s now going to be transformed into more retail for Paramus, which is always changing but has very few open space. There are no signs of Native American life around Paramus, hence there were few back when the theater opened in the 60’s.
The recent delay of the new Harry Potter movie could mean good news for the Rockaway AMC theater, as the IMAX screen will open just in time for a few major releases, such as Transformers 2, Night at the Museum 2, but not Watchmen. With the Dark Knight still making moolah, may a re-release come soon? I doubt it, with the increased revenue from dvd and blu-ray sales. BTW, has anything improved at the AMC in Rockaway besides the NCM Fathom thing?
When I first went to this theater, I didn’t eat any food during the movies that I attended, since it costs more than other theaters in my area. Very rare that the concession stand at the theater was closed for violations. FYI, the new Harry Potter won’t come out until next summer, which leaves the new Madagascar movie as a box office hopeful. Another movie coming out in IMAX soon will be Eagle Eye, starring Shia Lebouf.
On my way to seeing “Tropic Thunder” in the same auditorium as “The Dark Knight” (the one with the right surround channel not working still), the men’s bathroom was messy. The staff didn’t respond to cleaning up a pile of popcorn near the trash can, and when I entered, some kid accidentally opened the door for me just I was ready to get in!!! At least they still have the party room which Rockaway lacks even though they don’t have the snack stand on the right wing of the theater. The new Cirque de Soleil show Delirium will be playing at this theater next week; tix are still available.
Most of these screens were used for many widescreen formats during the 1960’s, only to be cut up into smaller theaters in the decades that followed.

I saw an ad for this movie at Mansfield in NJ. Given the respect that Cirque has had, this show might do as well but not as great as the Met series.
