Rayman29 yeah that was what happened here. They renegotiated the lease and were supposed to start renovations in the fall and now even the sign change to AMC is on hold.
I spoke with AMC this week and they took a major loss after purchasing the Carmike chain to the point that most theaters have no weekday shows before 4pm. Word is no renovations at former Carmike theaters may not happen until last 2018 or early 2019. It really sucks
The overview information needs to be updated. Through most of the 60’s the theater was operated by Stanley Warner. It was the late 60’s to early 70’s it was run by the SamEric corporation. The Tower was a William Goldman theater until 1967 when it was sold to Ellis Theaters. The majority of the managers and staff went to work at William Goldman new center city theater the Regency.
This really reminds me of 1982 when Spielberg would not allow any theater that was showing ET in 70MM to use the masking even though he masked the film and it was like 70MM but 1.85
I feel the same way Cinedelphia especially since the Regal here will only use the masking in the 4 large theaters that have the side to side masking. The others have vertical masking and they won’t use it.

Zeb it was a great theater. They started here and unfortunately didn’t stay.
I am not sure Howard if they used masking in all the theaters when the Regal here opened in Nov 2008. I want to say they did, but I know they definitely stopped when they went digital in 2012.
In the mid 60’s they got My Fair Lady after it played wherever it played in AC and in 1973 they got the move over of Last Tango In Paris after the Apollo closed in early August when the lease ran out. They also had Funny Lady all summer of 1975.
So I am curious do all the screens in this complex have masking? The Regal here doesn’t. Only 5 of the 15 screens do and only the ones that the masking opens horizontal. The other theaters do not have the vertical masking which I think is ridiculous.
With all the condos that have been built there is no reason this theater shouldn’t have taken off. Unfortunately except for Dan Marino’s Town Tavern the whole complex in general was a flop
I hated this drive in like all Floyd theaters. They wanted the screen full all the time so any movie in scope would be off to the sides of the screen in the bushes.
Walter K I had no clue about the high diving horse issue. From what I remember and probably you and Cindelphila remember those horses were treated great. These animal right activists need to get a damn life. They were the cause of the Ringling Bros circus folding. UGH
I would think that bringing in big name entertainment might work. I am not sure if any of the hotels have big name shows like Vegas they didn’t when they first opened, but I bet the one thing they do bring back is the high diving horse.

They are in major financial problems. They have cut out all their shows before 4pm in most markets.

Yeah. I am not sure why Regal would do one thing in one place and not be uniformed.

To me it seems AMC plans on continuing their lease on t his theater. Any thoughts?
I am amazed that AMC has not sold or closed this theater since they hate operating single screen theaters. Point in case Lowes 72nd East in NYC

Why would City Cinemas want to redevelop this property if it’s profitable.
Doesn’t the AMC Empire 25 sit in it’s place now?
