That just what we need a Islamic center.Surprized they would go into a Movie Theatre with all that was shown and what they are suppose to be dead set against.
Robin, Historical trivia question. What were three soft drinks sold at the concession at National Hills theatre? COKE, SPRITE and FANTA ORANGE. I drank so much one time my dentist said it was causing sores on my gums.I cut back on my Cokes.
I picked up a copy of the SIGNAL newspaper today. The newspaper of Fort Gordon. It was sorta funny no where in the paper was mentioned a movie listing of what would be playing this weekend.
Yeah, I noticed that too,The IMPERIAL and RIALTO were almost side by side on Broad Street in Augusta. In fact, They were closer than the ELITE and BIJOU were.Thanks.
Somewhere in that area.I haven’t been Downtown since I found this Theatre.I bet you guys had quite a few Silent Movie Houses that you probably never heard about. We have a Writer for the paper Don Rhodes and he using old papers and other historical documents found these theatres.I wrote him and told him about CT,but never heard back,For all I know he could using a name like you,so I wouldn’t know if he was on CT.
Okay here is the scoop on the GRAND THEATRE. It was located at 320 Greene Street and 8th street.“MOVING PICTURES” was the first movie ever to play in Augusta shown Nov 3-4 1904.Bob, you always want photos well I have alot of pictures of Drive-ins and theatres.Don’t know what happened to Nick who use to print my stuff for CT. If you let me know and i will print my address, drop me a line with your address and I will gladly send you copies of all my theatres for you or anyone else to put on CT. I would love to see them on.Thanks.
Bob,for the life of me I don’t think they are running 35mm movies. It is a large lecture hall on the bottom of SIGNAL TOWERS a ten or nine story office building. I have been in it. When the weekend hits at Fort Gordon the enlisted men and officers alike are in entertainment establishments in Augusta,Be it Moviegoing,Dining out or bars.Anyways, anyone can get on base it is no big deal,But I will try and check on it for you, Oh, I have that info you wanted on the GRAND THEATRE. I found a LIBERTY THEATRE on Camp Hancock, before it became Fort Gordon back in the very early 1900’s,but wasn’t sure if it played movies. So didn’t want to include it on CT.
Augusta. Iam going by Borders tonight to look at that regional book written about entertainment in Augusta and I will see if it is mentioned.Last time I went by there it was a church.
Yep.It won’t be long before one of you break the 2000 mark. Saw on CNN that people are getting pink eye from wearing 3-D glasses not cleaned. Be careful.
We had a Quonset Hut Theatre here on Laney-Walker Blvd, that played movies for the nearby Black neighborhood, not too far from the LENOX theatre, but have no idea what the theatre’s name was.
They must be DVD showings. If it is the theatre inside Signal Towers it looks more like a large college lecture hall. I have been in it and i would consider it a movie theatre.Certainly not like the other two theatres on Fort Gordon I put on.
I forgot we had a 8-track player in both COLUMBIA 1 and 2.Often when the booth cleared out,i would go up and take out Mr.Ballard’s Glenn Miller Music and we would rock to Alice Cooper or The Stones,Sip a cold one with the other managers at Plitt that always ended up out at Columbia! Those were the days. Heck, If I knew how I would have run the bleeping movie!

Left out “not” as in “not consider it a movie theatre”.
Never been there, but these kinds of Twins were the best in the business.
