Newnan Drive In 1980's

The Newnan Drive-In was opened on July 26, 1951 with Rod Cameron in “Oh! Susannah”. Located in the small town of Newnan was a no frills drive-in located right outside of town. The 485-car capacity drive-in was huge for a small town, which might have been the reason it had only one drive-in. It was owned by LAM Amusements who were located in Rome, Georgia, and ran several North Georgia theatres, most today would consider to be in Atlanta. It was still open in September 1979.

U.S. 29 & Lake Ridge Way, Newnan, GA 30263

The above address will map accurately to the location of the drive-in, which is visible on Google Earth using historic aerial imagery.

Here is a USGS topo map which notes the location of the drive-in, courtesy of Earth Explorer and USGS.

The location of the drive in is actually south of Lake Ridge Way on U.S. Highway 29. The house on Lake Ridge closest to the highway would’ve been where the screen was located.

I found advertisements in the Newnan Times-Herald newspaper through September 1979 for the drive-in.
