Yup. That way people can play games on mute and hide them once the movie begins. BTW, there was a minor masking issue near the top of the widescreen when i saw glass and some windowboxing when i saw the preshow before the film. Audio was good and the crowd stayed through the whole film. One of the seats squeaked like a mouse. I haven’t seen any mice yet i’ve seen fireflies in the auditorium that are attracted to the light of the projector. This theater is near 13 years old and is in need of repair in the near future.
This weekend the American remake of Miss Bala is in Dolby, with Free Solo getting IMAX. Black Panther is back and you can go to a special website to order tickets for free. Lego Movie 2 will come to Dolby and Imax next weekend.
Saw Spider-Man in theater number 1. No masking at all when the feature began. Pre show was 10 minutes shorter than usual since it’s a kids movie and then 20 minutes of trailers. Picture and sound were good. People with seizures should be advised not to see this film as it has scenes in which colors and lights flash.
Saw Ralph breaks the internet in theater #10 right next to the Dolby showing a star is born again . Presentation was good although the projector flickered a bit. Audio was subpar as it was for Disney movies. Kids behaved ok.
Reserved seating will be enforced at this theater starting with the release of The Kid Who Would Be King according to AMC’s website, becoming the second 16 screen theatre by AMC to get it as it approaches its 20th anniversary when it started life as a General Cinema two years before it entered bankruptcy and got bought out by AMC the year after.
The Dolby Cinema’s projector is much brighter than the old projector yet still has the Dolby Atmos audio in the theater in addition to the AMC Signature Recliners that rumble with the action. Also, they removed the SDDS DTS and Dolby decoders from the screen and put in an Atmos system. Theater #2 is now the 70mm screen.
Saw the Beale Street movie yesterday. During the preview for The Aftermath, the subtitle was a bit cut off. As for the movie itself, projection was sharp and the sound very good despite someone texting on their cell but not very loud. Movie wasn’t very good so i’ll read the book instead. I upgraded to Premiere but couldn’t upgrade to A List since that requires a debit card instead of gift cards.
Mary Poppins is still playing in dolby until the 17th, when Glass comes out in that format as well as Liemax. Advance tickets for Captain Marvel go on sale on Monday in both dolby and imax for the first weekend in march, with the fourth avengers movie to follow soon after. Tickets are already on sale for “Us” since Christmas of last month.
Looks like it’s quite popular among the fans overseas…here in rockaway Mary Poppins is still playing in Dolby for the next few weeks until Glass opens on the 18th.
Among new releases this weekend The Escape Room debuts while If Beale Street Could Talk opens wide here. After what they did with reserved seating at Paramus, it’s likely that this theater will soon have that feature along with Clifton while raising prices while audiences watch Bird Box on their netflix accounts on their phones and whatnot. It’s been nearly 10 years since Rockaway first got those 4k projectors, first for the 3d in august followed by the fall launch of the digital IMAX, which will soon be replaced by a mini laser projector which will be on par with Dolby and hopefully they install better seats and keep the volume to normal levels as i can’t stand the vibration from the adjoining screen.
Dolby cinema 3d debuts next week with battle angel Alita which will bomb at the box office.
A star is born is playing here this weekend. Tickets are 10 buckaroos.
