yup. It didn’t take 55 years to build it, that’s just slang for the company’s founding in 1910. BTW, what was Century Theaters and how did it get its name? When that theater opened, was it the same size as what used to be a one-screener on Route 4? The garden state theater is much bigger than both combined!!!
amc in rockaway sounds like a good thing since this will bring more traffic to the mall than usual and attendance will surge and this theater will make more money than its competitors, who have to rely on dlp and sloped seating.
Wrong story is right. Hopefully digital projection would come to the Mansfield complex, which is one of the three most popular Clearviews in the tri-state area that would benefit from the deal. Other theaters that could benefit include those that have 10 screens or more.
Unfortunately, hopes for an IMAX theater in Paramus will have to go by as the AMC in ROckaway will be the only complex in North Jersey to show the format come summer 2008; the closest theaters are in West Nyack and Lincoln Square; Jersey City only shows Omnimax films.
This theater, as well as the Clifton Commons, will not have IMAX 3D, leaving the Rockaway complex to be the only theater in North Jersey to show the format come summer 2008.
my bad. The system which will be installed at this theater by around summer 2008 will be a new version of the Imax 3-D system that eliminates the need for bulky film, hence it will be digital and will charge $2-4 more per ticket. BTW, which of the 16 screens will be retrofitted for the IMAX 3-D, or will it be an additional screen? Only time will tell.
The original Rockaway theater had no 70mm capabilities, but its successor will finally get it when an IMAX screen will be added to the theater by summer 2008.
This just in….Looks like the AMC in Rockaway will have IMAX!!! View link
I’ll also post this as a news item. IMAX will be a much welcome addition to this theater and will increase traffic and money. IMAX tickets are more expensive than digital 3-D and 35mm combined. It’ll be nice to see an IMAX movie in Rockaway rather than drive all the way to manhattan or west nyack.
Being a liberal, I think Hollywood is taking it too far to make really good movies and just being a bit conservative, making movies to rekindle us of the fear that’s in the news. After the release of Dawn of the Dead (the original), the number of shootings at malls increased, including the one in Omaha, where a new movie theater will be open soon but will have to increase security due to this tragedy. As for Cloverfield, I hope it’s the most serious monster movie of the year and not some silly remake of an old movie. J.J. Abrahams knows what’s going for him, with that movie and the upcoming star trek sequel, whose trailer will be attached to Cloverfield.
just checked the website for succasunna, and beowulf was still showing in 3d. My bad. parsippany will still play beowulf in 3d while succasunna plays THe Golden Compass on the DLP screen in plain old 2d.
This week marks the 25th anniversary of this theater. Opening attractions included “48 Hours”, “The Toy”, and “Airplane II: The Sequel”; each feature was on two screens each, and one became a big hit for Eddie Murphy and for the theater itself. Since then, the theater has seen its share of hits like “Jurassic Park” and misses like “Waterworld”.
i can’t believe this theater is still open!!! This theater has to be one of those underpeforming theaters that are owned by Clearview. Any word on when it might close soon? This is the only theater reachable from 206 for those who live in Newton, since the Newton theater shut down.
Another thing Clearview needs to do is refurbish every screen with stadium rather than sloped seating. Like the Rockaway location, this theater has an elevator that only employees can use to go to the projection booth (a stairway is there just in case a fire or something bad breaks out in the lift), which is huge. They also show indian films on occasion, something that the AMC in Rockaway lacks, and also its Baby Matinee program.
what happened to the classics program at this theater? Will it return? Since the program was gone, attendance is not what it used to be since the AMC in Rockaway opened.
any word on when this theater gets dlp? Seems that this theater, one of the three most popular Clearviews, is behind the times. Does their preshow still have film? The AMC in Rockaway has more to offer than the one in Mansfield, and Regal just added DLP in its Pohatcong location, making Succasunna the closest location for digital projection.
during its heyday, this theater, along with Clearview’s Parsippany theater, were the most popular ‘plexes in the county, only to be dethroned by the AMC in Rockaway.

this as sales for high def movies are at an all time high, since they deliver better picture and sound quality on par with 70mm film.
u mean qualcomm.

go to amc’s website, mywill. My local theater will get the system sometime by 2008 (rockaway 16).

One of 100 theaters to show films in IMAX 3D come summer 2008 as part of deal between AMC and Imax.
better news. IMAX 3D will come to this theater come summer 2008 as a part of a deal between AMC and IMAX.
One of several former Loews houses that will be retrofitted to include IMAX 3D as part of a deal between AMC and IMAX for summer 2008.
this theater will be the first in times square to have a new version of the IMAX 3D system, scheduled for launch sometime in the summer of 2008.

This coming weekend, The Golden Compass will play on 2 35mm screens, while Beowulf will still play in 3d.

This theater was renovated as of the week after Thanksgiving. Luxurious seats and digital sound were added to each screen.
