The 1937 photo is the first Princess, the 2nd. Princess was at 415 Church Street later name the Crescent and then Loews Crescent untill 1981???

TLSLOEWS commented about Loew's Crescent Theatre on Feb 4, 2010 at 2:16 pm

When the Princess became the Crescent it was remolded for cinerama and ran these shows for only a couple of years before installing a new screen in front of the curved screen. The old curved screen could still be seen from the back coming in the loading dock, this theatre never had a stage, just storage behind the screen, screens, we had a wood framed storage area for conncessions covered with chicken wire over it behind the screens,we also had shelves for the marquee letters stored there too.

I have heard rumors that the 1967 fire may have been arson to collect insurance money,A friend of mine called it “Jewish Lighting” that had started the fire.I do not know this for a fact though.Looking at CT I have scene there have been many movie house fires over the years.

TLSLOEWS commented about Imperial Theatre on Feb 4, 2010 at 1:43 pm

Mike is the Imperial still set up to show movies? When Loews shut down the 3 theatres in Nashville they pulled out all the projection and sound equiptment and sent it somewhere else.Martin theatres ran the Crescent for about a year after Loews pulled out and also the Melrose for about 2 more years. The Loews Madsion never operated as a theatre after Loews,it sat empty for years but is operationing as a chuch now. Also the Melrose Theatre building is still there a video production company owns it and the rest of the complex. They tore down the bowling alley at the other end of the complex several years ago to built a new resturant, this has not happened.

TLSLOEWS commented about Knox Theatre on Feb 3, 2010 at 10:47 pm

Yeah Mike when we were real busy at the Loews Crescent many people would leave out the emergency exits into the alleys beside the theatre and behind it we used to have several ushers to look out for people who would try to sneak in while the others were leaving.I have also caught people who bought one ticket and would open the exit doors to let in their friends.I am sure some people got away with it though.
