Now playing Sept.17 1960 “IT HAPPENED TO JANE” and “APACHE TERRITORY” they had a game called Play Lucky.10 sure winners, big cash jack pot and Horse shoe jackpot.
Did you notice the MAVC theatre I put on under newest theatres. It might be of interest to you. Yep I only have 70 or so drive-ins left. You have a much bigger task and I hope you do live long enough and then alot more to be able to enjoy the work. I have a flyer from Fort Gordon, Georgia on the movie “EXECUTIVE ACTION” i pick up as a kid out on the base one day.It had on it “FOR INSTALLATION DISTRIBUTION ONLY"Coming soon to your Army and Air Force Theatres.Admission at the theatre at Fort Gordon was $1.00 for adults and 50 cents for children.I remember they had a beautiful new theatre and later built a second screen, but smaller cinema.Ray Hutto who hand built SOUTHSIDE CINEMA {on CT] I think got the seats from that newer theatre for his South Augusta theatre.Interesting story.
You make good points John. But even at 11.00 dollars a seat here in Augusta for a first run movie you still have A-holes yaking in the theatre.I found our little Masters 7 here a two dollar theatre having the fewest patron problems,or maybe i have just been lucky with the movies i have seen there.
Michael, I noticed you have been on Ct since 2005.How many of these Articles have you done on different movies? I would certainly like to read them, minus the musicals.
I guess I should slow down, but doggone it I can see how people get hooked on these dang computers.I wouldn’t even be on one now if it wasn’t for CT.I actually believed a couple of friends and myself would be the only ones ever have any interest in picking tics off of each other from exploring old DRive-ins.Or coughing our lungs out from sneaking into closed rotting downtown theatres. I plan on putting every DRive-in from Georgia that is not already on CT on the Cinema Treasures site,But for you I promise to slow down. But I just this morning put about 10 drive-ins on before reading this.
Stan ,Elanor was her first name.I wrote her once about her review on a Dirty Harry movie,I think it was “SUDDEN IMPACT” she unlike most big city film critics really liked this Dirty Harry movie and admitted to me she had a crush on Clint Eastwood,I have the letter somewhere.I saw 2001 in 70mm at National Hills here in Augusta, and for a 12 year old not really understanding the movie, the beauty of space, well its a wonder I never went to NASA for work.
Ken Christianson,Manager in March 1970 said,“HEAVEN WITH A GUN” was a"Good western a little on the rough side,it was a disappointment here". played Sunday and Monday with fair weather.
Found another Tina Slover review,“WHAT EVER HAPPENED TO AUNT ALICE?” It played the Almont from Friday-Sunday,stating,“the audience thought it was boring,They couldn’t keep track of the story,It was not as good as we played it up to be”.Ruth Gordon stars.

The above incident happened in 1973.I guess the theatres stayed closed until the article in Boxoffice in 1975.
I can’t believe small town politics. Can’t say that anything has really changed. It wasn’t like Mr.McIntosh was running X -rated movies.
Read the Melroy Theatre it has more info since the same man owned both theatres.
I think this took place in the late 60’s or early 70’s article had no date.
Nick.I have a picture of the Grand,if you could get it on.

Great looking theatre staff, not a tatoo anywhere.
I assume these theatres were on an army base in Saigon?
Great Shot,Ken mc.
I thought Plitt had sold all their theatres by 1983.
