And in December, Schindler’s List returns in 4k Dolby Cinema. I saw this movie on DVD as I was a bit too young to see it, i saw pieces of it when it was on NBC for its TV premiere and i fell asleep. This was a well shot and well paced movie that deserved to win the oscar for best picture. The little girl who is the only character to be in color would become the main star in Alice in Wonderland, Mia Wasawoka or what’s her name. I actually don’t go to the fathom events, as those are more expensive than a regular show and i hear reports of the satellite feed not working. The price for fathom is a bit higher than regular but not as much as Dolby and Imax and 3d. I think AMC needs to add reserved seating to its 14 theatres in the near future so that they can control the crowds better. The displays used for the reserved seating are kinda small but I always sit in the reserved seat next to my dad and stay there if he has to go to the bathroom or get a snack, and vice versa.
You should be in the projectionists hall of fame mark. You always take good care of the prints and the studios want them as clean as possible so that they come in handy if the master print is damaged due to weather or fire as was the case with the Universal Hollywood fire years ago which consumed some film reels; luckily Universal had them on digital backup.
I heard that the digital HD imax version of 2001 was decent based on what others said. This release is the widest it has ever had since it was reissued in the 1970s. The running time of the movie is mostly composed of the feature film, plus the entracte intermission, and end music. I’ll probably wait until it hits 4k bluray and buy it for cheap…i own 2001 on itunes and the quality of the master is pretty good.
I can’t wait to preorder this on google play since i own the Itunes version that is based on the 2007 HD master used for the bluray release. It’s worth watching i tell ya. As for the Dark knight, the DVD release of the two disc set has the imax scenes in its imax ratio on disc 2 of the set, while the bluray shows the cropped image used for the digital imax release. the bluray of batman begins has the dark knight prologue in its imax format.
So this is where the rebirth of reserved seating in mainstream theaters is coming from….it’s here to stay and with the popularity of movie subscrption services such as MoviePass (rip) , Sinemia, and AMC’s A-List, more people will reserve their tickets for big movies; first come, first served unless the show is cancelled due to an outage, movie being pulled from theater, etc.
It’s been 8 years next fall since AMC ditched film for digital, and the quality has improved somewhat.
