I remember seeing “TALES FROM THE CRYPT” at the Imperial when the old box office lady at the MILLER wouldn’t let me in to see “THE GODFATHER” under age.Funny how you remember stuff. “ASYLUM” was another good feature.PG and scary, Not slashing parts off like they feel they have to do in today’s Horror films.
I know you guys will,if i can make it I will bring you something that I think you guys outta have. Just promise me if you ever disband the group Friends of the Miller,Plez let me have it back.
You know Chuck 1231, it amazes me that until a few weeks ago I had no idea UA was in the theatre business in the 60’s.I had assumed they came around in the 80’s when they were buying up regional chains.I have learned something on CT.
When Ken mc had Nov.1963 I thought it might have to do with President Kennedy being Killed. I know the theatres here in Augusta cancelled the afternoon shows, but the evening shows went on.I guess on Nov.22 there were alot of dark screens that night.
Tlsloews I have great color pictures of it when it closed. But i think Miss.Robin has quit doing Ct. I guess it got old, so unless i can get Nick to put them on,they will stay in my movie theatre shoebox.
Thanks for the comment on the TAZEWELL. it is in Your state, near the Cumberland Gap.
Alot of X-rated houses did 16mm. I knew a man that ran X -rated in Jacksonville,Fla.In fact he had several reels he took.He use to be a member of our stagehand union. Nick, it is funny i have been able to recall movies at Daniel Village Theatre and post them on CT.
Well, R.J. about i can add would be Waters theatre Corp, was out of Birmingham.2109 Fifth Ave.N.Birmingham,Ala. Their booker was J.R. Waters and the purchasing head was N.H.Waters Jr.They had 11 screens in Birmingham and Theatres in Ensley,Fairfield,Homewood and Leeds Ala.
Did all the guys and gals that worked in the theatre business in Knoxville just vanish? For a city to be this big it is amazing very little conversations and theatre stories, just like Columbia,S.C.Oh, I forgot they are College towns,
06-22-66 sees “THE RUSSIANS ARE COMING,THE RUSSIANS ARE COMING” at Daniel Village,One Doris Day’s last Big screen roles is the family film “WITH SIX YOU GET EGGROLL” showing 08-07-68.
Nick, did YOU ever tell me you saw 2001 in 16mm and looked good. we played Viva Knievel at Columbia 1.Don’t recall it setting any records.Had “Bridge Too Far” also at Columbia 1.
Okay.
You had Drive-in pictures Didn’t you?
Speaking of Photos any luck with Robin.I think she has given up on CT.
I managed to save few through the years, but not near enough.I love to see the art work most of all.

They must run their big city theatres better than the small ones i have had a chance to see.
Yes IT PARKED 500 cars. And was owned by S&M Theatres,Inc. Okay,TLSLOEWS make the cute comment about the “owners”.
this little Drive-in parked 200 cars and was run by I.W.Boden. There was the Skyvue Drive-in in that town also.
BBrown1,I have the Tazewell Drive-in on CT, It is located near the Cumberland Gap in Tenn. Do you have anything on that Drive-in.
Well,TLsloews ,ihave it parking 340 cars like Ken had and it was owned by W.F.Ruffin.I added a bit.

What made me think the BIG D DRIVE-IN was in Dallas. It parked 750 cars and in 1956 it was owned by Childress Circuit.
Tlsloews I have great color pictures of it when it closed. But i think Miss.Robin has quit doing Ct. I guess it got old, so unless i can get Nick to put them on,they will stay in my movie theatre shoebox.

Still yet,another dead theatre town.

Well, Malcolm. It parked 300 cars and was owned by Robb&Worley. Two other Drive-ins in Sweetwater were Midway and Mustang.
What a history.What a great story.Only in America.
Wonder if “NORTH DALLAS FORTY” played there.
