As of 12/21, this theatre is now officially owned by Rave Motion Pictures. The theatre is listed on Rave’s website in the California roster of theatres.

Any reports from the Avatar 3D Dome screenings?

Brad: I was a non-believer in that whole assigned seating business…until I tried it. After experiencing the joy of not having to stand in line for opening night of Star Wars Episode 3 (and will experience the same joy with “Avatar IMAX” tomorrow night), I saw the light and am not looking back! :)

The earlier you buy your seat, the less crappy it’ll be. Remember: the early bird always catches the worm!

Yeah…and $20-30 bucks a ticket – FOOD NOT INCLUDED!

Just found out that this joint is switching to an all assigned seating policy. This makes the 5th theatre in LA County that’s all assigned seating. The Bridge also has all assigned seating but only in selected auditoriums.

Does anyone have any tidbits about Mann’s plans for this theatre (and their other theatres) when they pull out of Westwood in March 2010?

@Howard: That’s my batch. Took them on my iPhone – which doesn’t have a flash on it – which would explain why they came out so dark.

Kayoss’s pics of the Premiere Cinema came out better than mine, but I have 2 clear shots of 1 of their regular auditoriums. Those shots pretty much layout the specs of the regular auds. The seats in each aud vary – but there’s not a single one of the 13 that seats over 300. They’re all designed the same – same screen sizes (40 feet or so), same seating layout, same sense of BLAH!

No pics of those teeny tiny regular auditoriums? Never fear. I posted some pics over at CinemaTour.

Digital projection on a screen the size of a postage stamp does not impress me. I don’t care if it’s 4K, 8K, 20K – any theatre that masks their screens to show 2:35 widescreen is a FAIL!

Chris Utley commented about AMC Esquire 7 on Dec 10, 2009 at 8:45 am

I suspect that the “City” folks patronize the Esquire because it’s familiar. They along with their families have been going there for DECADES!

That’s a 5 screener, right? Aren’t they more indie/arthouse oriented?

Chris Utley
Chris Utley commented about AMC Esquire 7 on Dec 9, 2009 at 9:31 am

If I’m not mistaken, the Esquire is the only multiplex in close proximity to the “City” – what the locals call the city limits of St. Louis – which, for all intents and purposes, is basically “the hood.” That explains the savory characters that the other guy complained about.

Calling them PIGS is a bit harsh, though.

BREAKING NEWS: Rave is closing a deal to buy 35 theatres from National Amusements – presumably including this one. Makes sense…Rave’s other theatres across the country look just like The Bridge to me.

Remember how some of us were wondering if Rave “unofficially” taking over this theatre was a ploy for them to enter the LA market?

Chris Utley commented about AMC and Regal ban outside food from theaters on Dec 8, 2009 at 12:07 pm

They’re stupid! Do they know how easy it is to stuff a friggin Subway/Quizno’s sub or Chipotle burrito in your coat? They should just build a food court in the concession stand and call it a day. Sheesh!

I live in Inglewood. It’s tough in certain sections of the city but not nearly as gang infested as “the media” would have you believe. They’ve been trying to get a theatre built here for the last 13 years or so. The planned redevelopment of Hollywood Park – which would include demolishing the race track – includes a movie theatre.

We’ll see how it goes.

Chris Utley commented about Happy 50th, "Ben-Hur" on Nov 20, 2009 at 8:42 am

I saw “Ben-Hur” (with Charlton Heston signing autographs) in 35MM during the “closing weekend” of the Cinerama Dome when they shut down the complex to build Arclight Hollywood & refurbish the Dome. It was the only time I ever saw a presentation wider than 2:35. I don’t know if we saw a 2:55 or a 2:70 print, but I DO remember the techs at the Dome expanding the side masking to capture more of the picture.

An unforgettable experience and a SPECTACULAR film!

Chris Utley commented about Regal Cinemas LA Live Stadium 14 on Nov 16, 2009 at 3:46 pm

Saw “2012” in the Premiere Cinema on 11/14 and have confirmation: the screen is indeed top masking. BUT the sound is so loud and crisp in there that the masking doesn’t hinder the presentation of a film like that.
