Recently I saw Atonement here and realized how small the auditoriums are. The screen was also in a 2:1 ratio and caused the 1.85:1 film not of fill up the screen.
A number of the films mentioned above (Showtime, Insomnia, Men In Black II, Austin Powers in Goldmember, Signs, The Lord Of The Rings sequels, Gangs Of New York, the Kill Bill films, Van Helsing, Team America: World Police, Star Wars Episode III and the first Transformers run) were of 35mm prints projected on the IMAX screen. Another film that could be included is Everyone Says I Love You, which played a midnight show on the IMAX screen during its Oscar run beginning on December 6th, 1996.
When I saw it, there were a lot of small children as well. Meanwhile in the UK, its 18 rating disallows small children even if they arrive with adults.
On the Variety link, the replies are quite hellish and bashing cultures, politics and religion as the reason for the pulling. Even the bashing of Muslim nations get into the conversation.
This doesn’t surprise me one bit. In fact, I was surprised the film was even given an R in the US despite the extremely graphic violence. I mean, Lust Caution is rated NC-17 for a few sex scenes but Rambo and its near non-stop violence got an R. But also these same cultural differences may explain the difference in gun violence in the US and UK.
This theatre hosted the premiere of the film Snipes, starring St. Louis native Nelly, on September 3rd, 2002. Footage of the premiere can be found on the film’s DVD.

Before then, I’d seen several PG-13 and R-rated titles on VHS and television (such as Ace Ventura, The Mask, Dumb and Dumber, Speed, Terminator 2, The Running Man and Predator 2).
Yes, I used the invaluable microfilm at the Library Center in Springfield, MO. I’ve also got about the last fifteen to twenty years of the Tower and pretty much every Springfield opening from 1978 to 2001. Plus, my near photographic memory for the last few years comes in handy as well.
I saw The Ex here on May 24th, 2007. Good presentation, comfy, well-worn seats, air conditioning blaring full blast. And since it was a Thursday afternoon showing a film which was ending later that night, about five people were there. Not bad of a film though. Zach Braff was weak but Jason Bateman was great as the villain.

Definitely, Maybe is currently running here. Probably didn’t do too well.

I’ve since seen here:
The Prestige
We Are Marshall
Mr. Bean’s Holiday
The Nightmare Before Christmas in 3-D
Bella
Enchanted (in THX)
Mr. Magorium’s Wonder Emporium

This was one of the few Wehrenberg theatres with THX sound.
I just found that my answer is yes.
Were the Tower East on 72nd and the Tower East on 71st different theatres or the same?
Strange booking at the Quad:
In 1986, they showed the Invaders From Mars remake.
Two words.
Later on, it went back to the old name but with a slight change, as the Harlem Victoria (found this through New York Times microfilm).
Usually I can only find up to 1994, but I can ask behind the desk. I shall call off this search for now.
I am in Southwest Missouri. And yes, I am looking for the bookings mainly. This is for personal research.
I’m surprised that the city health inspectors haven’t shut down the theatre from the rodent issues like they did with that Taco Bell.
I’ve never been to New York but if I do come, I probably won’t go here due to my fear of rats and mice.

Stranger Than Fiction was set in Chicago (notice the Chicago Sun-Times reader near the end).
I’ll go with The Untouchables.
Just what we need, another Supercenter. Wal-Mart sucks the big one (this means everything about them).

One additional film:
10/18/1996 Bulletproof (I accidentally forgot this one)
Dances With Wolves was shown from November 21st, 1990 to June 13th, 1991, which may or may not be the all-time Tower record.
