Hello-

I was last out in L.A. the Spring of 2003 so I can’t honestly vouch for the accuracy of the photo at the top of this page. but if it isn’t the Cinerama Dome on Sunset Blvd. and Vine was is it there?

Hello-

thanks to rayman29 for replying. as I said for yearssssssssss and yearssssssssssss the Summer movie season has always started the 1st Fri. in May. so are you saying that the Summer movie season will now be starting the last Fri. in April? I ask since the last week of April has for years been a dumping ground.

Hello-

I thank moviebuff82 for their reply. but I an still of the opinion that for yearssssssssssssssssss that specially the last week of April being a dumping ground(negatively of course) for big studio films. its kind of like an Oscar Bait film that had a long held release between the first week of Oct. and Dec. 31 gets pulled from said release date at the last minute and is released in January you know its a turkey.

Hello-

for yearsssssssss and yearssssssss the first Fri. in May was the start of the Summer movie season. so i was quite surprised that The Avengers: Infinity War was switched from the 1st Fri. in May to the last Fri. in April. for yearssssss the last week of April has been a dumping ground. i am quite nervous about the switch being an omen.

Hello-

to BobbyS I thank you for your reply. I recently watched an HD transfer of Circus World on YouTube and found that while it may not have been Oscar material it was an colorful entertaining movie. so since the film’s roadshow engagement “in Cinerama” at this theater lasted 19 weeks I can’t believe said engagement at the Uptown in D.C.lasted only 3 weeks.

also presenting films “in Cinerama” lasted another five years.

Hello-

I see from the wonderful article that Circus World’s roadshow engagement “in Cinerama” lasted 19 weeks. now in D.C. it played the Uptown and on that’s theater’s page someone stated that the film’s roadshow engagement “in Cinerama” lasted a grand total of 3 weeks. I can’t believe the film’s roadshow ruin at the Uptown lasted only 3 weeks considering it played the Capitol for 19 weeks.

Hello-

does anyone know of a website that discusses what happened to films that should have come out by now? every so often I say to myself what ever happened to film x,y or z.

Hello-

I thank patryan6019 for their reply. I don’t see the point behind issuing a blu-ray disc of the film unless its in the correct aspect ratio.

also when 2001 gets its 50th Anniversary Reissue in
May it had better be shown in a theater with a really
big screen.

Hello-

the last week of February Olive Films released a blu-ray disc of The Hallelujah Trail which opened here. they botched it big time. my main critique is simple. since the film was shot in Ultra-Panavison 70 the blu-ray disc should have an aspect ratio of 2.75.1 but they give it 2.35.1. i had other problems with the disc and sent it back to the company headquarters. I haven’t received a reply yet by mail or e-mail.

Hello-

I wish people would stop equating being able to reserve seats online with traditional roadshow engagements from the prime Sept. 1952 to Dec. 1972 period.

Hello-

I thank moviebuff82 for their reply. to which if I understand your reply correctly though Snyder didn’t finish shooting JL he did film scenes that were not use din the theatrical cut?

I don’t know why if directors shoot scenes that are not used in the theatrical cut said scenes aren’t included in the dvd/Blu-ray package. for instance after post production work was done the 1st cut of Call Me By Your Name was 4 hours. I would love to know what was in the 1hr.48mins. not used.

Hello-

while the book “Movie Roadshows” is a fascinating book its only 99% perfect. a few roadshows in Manhattan aren’t even mentioned. plus Holston lists films as having had roadshow runs but offers no proof.

Hello-

I thank Peter A. for his reply. It validates my thought that if Snyder didn’t finish directing the film how can there be a “Zack Snyder cut”. which prompts the question- why do people asking for one?

Hello-

in WB’s plans to reboot the Superman franchise I enjoyed Justice League wayyyyyyyyyyyyyy more than either Man of Steel or Superman vs. Batman:Dawn of Justice. now as everyone knows Zack Snyder had to leave JL early because of his daughter’s tragic death. now fans have been loudly asking for Snyder’s cut of the film to be released. to which my question. if Snyder didn’t finish directing the film how can there be a Zack Snyder cut?

Hello-

to Bill H.–

thanks for your reply. I don’t get it. I can get a senior discount for a 3D-IMAX film at the Lincoln Square but not a 70MM screening at the Village East? what’s the logic?

bigjoe59
bigjoe59 commented about Loew's Capitol Theatre on Apr 3, 2018 at 7:02 pm

Hello-

to Howard B. thanks for the info. I hope the 50th Anniversary print will be shown in a theater with a really big screen.

to Bill H.– the Village East Cinemas is in fact a renovated Yiddish Art Theater originally built in 1912. the 70MM print of Ready Player One in playing in what was the Yiddish theater’s main stage. all the other auditoriums at Village East are renovated storage space.

also to Bill H.– don’t you think $20 with no senior or children’s discount is a rip off? that’s the first time I can remember a theater having no senior or children’s discount.

at what Manhattan theater or theaters will the 50th Anniversary re-issue(supervised by Christopher Nolan) be playing?

bigjoe59 commented about AMC Lincoln Square 13 on Apr 2, 2018 at 5:49 pm

Hello-

though I frequently come here i didn’t see The Phantom Thread here which is where my question comes in. did they charge extra for the 70MM engagement of TPT which lasted several weeks? the reason I ask is simple. I saw Ready Player One at the Village East which was showing it in 70MM in the main auditorium and they charged $20 with no discounts for seniors or children. that $20 was the highest price I have paid for a film that wasn’t 3-D, IMAX or IMAX 3-D.

the odd part is I saw both Wonder Woman and Murder on the Orient Express in 70MM last year at the Cinema 1 also a City Cinemas theater and they didn’t charge extra or not have the senior or children’s discount.

Hello-

last year this theater held 70MM engagements of Wonder Woman in June and Murder on the Orient Express in Nov. to which my question, did the Cinema 1 charge extra? I went to see Ready Player One at the Village East and they were charging $20 for everyone children and seniors as well as adults.

isn’t an unreserved seat roadshow engagement what New York called a reserved performance engagement?

Hello-

granted there are a number of condos/co-ops being build in the area but the people who will eventually be moving into said developments had better be ardent film goers such as myself.

also i found the fact that the theater where I saw Journey’s End had no masking annoying. while I’m watching the film you can’t help notice the rest of the screen. don’t state of the art theaters mask screens anymore?

also outside each auditorium is a lit display stating which film is playing. when i walked into the space it was so long that I thought I was some Greek hero in a maze looking for the Minotaur.

also a regular adult ticket of $18.50 is to use the expression about rents “too damn high”. also the senior ticket is $16.00 which is higher than the regular adult ticket at some art houses.

also being a spanking new state of the art theater means very little. when the 62 St.& 1st Ave. multi- plex was built the area was already quite residential and being a spanking new state of the art theater did not help it get a foothold in the neighborhood.

Hello-

I went to this theater for the first time to see Journet’s End. it was a first rate film and to say the theater is saturated with state of the art technology would be an understatement. but there were more staff than patrons. regardless of the quality of the films its playing who’s going to trek to the West Side Highway to see a film besides me? and yes the theater is not between 11th and 12th avenues. it is literarly right next to the WSH.

Hello-

have any other frequent patrons at this theater visited the new Landmark 57th St.? I went yesterday to see Journey’s End. the theater is state of the art and the film was first rate but there were more staff than patrons. as I posted when the 57th St. was about to open who does Landmark think is going to trek to the Westside Highway(its right next to the 57th St.) to see a movie?
