I come here pretty regularly. The auds are more spacious than the old 14 plex – but I really can’t stand the fixed length screens at this and all the newly built AMC’s. The screens are super large for 1:85 projected films, but for 2:35 widescreen films, they mask both the top AND the bottom of the screen which makes the screen look smaller. LAME!
Cinema 3 (the big house next to Levitz) is where I had one of my first THX experiences (with “Pretty Woman” – the exact wrong movie for THX!) as well as my first DTS Digital experience with “Jurassic Park” in 93. At the time, that was the LOUDEST movie I’d ever heard. The memorable sequence with the puddle vibrating to the sound of the oncoming T-Rex literally shook the theatre!
I’ve seen several flicks here over the past 2 years – most notably “Slumdog Millionare” right at the beginning of it’s ultimate journey towards Oscar glory. The sound in the theatre – normally understated for it’s regular arthouse fare – was kicked up several notches for “Slumdog” which really blew me away!
I went to High School in Van Nuys and, after getting a driver’s license, used to come here quite frequently after school on Fridays. Biggest flick I saw here was “Backdraft” – sound and picture were top notch!
The theatre has been reconfigured as a mixed use retail center housing a branch of Chase Bank, some restaurants and some sort of community office of sorts. Looks nothing like a theatre anymore…except for that bowl shape.
Every time I’ve gone here, I’ve seen movies in the downstairs auditoriums. They used to be nice but upon my last visit in 2007, wear and tear has really gotten to the place. It’s time for AMC to bid this one farewell and build a 14 screener in its place.
Something’s fishy about all this. I think they are just jockeying to be the front runners if/when Beverly Center mgmt decide to build a new theatre there.
My last visit here was in Summer 1984 for a double feature of “Breakin” and “Fame” on the “deskanked” Screen 1 (the screen in the photo above). I say “deskanked” because, around 1982 or so, the Holiday had ditched showing cheerleader/nurse/teacher/summer camp counselor in heat flicks on this screen. Seeing mainstream flicks in this field felt very weird.
The only movie I saw here was the 007 flick “For Your Eyes Only.” I thought it was neat how they synchronized the opening of the curtain & dimming of the house lights with the ever popular Weherenberg Theatres jingle.
The one and only time I’ve ever seen “The Sound of Music” on the big screen, it was here! I also remember seeing a double feature of “Alien” & “The Man Who Fell To Earth” with my mom in the early 80’s. She covered my eyes through the majority of “TMWFTE” due to all the nude/love scenes.
I saw 2 movies here (that I know of): “The Pink Panther Strikes Again” and “Murder By Death.” Saw them both with my father in 76. I especially remember seeing the trailer for the 3rd Dirty Harry flick “The Enforcer” before “PPSA” and it scared me a little bit.

The film series at LACMA will continue thanks to grants & sponsors including Time Warner Cable who gave over $150,000 to keep the program running.
Went to the drive-in once and went to the walk-in once. You can still feel the spirit of the drive-in when you’re standing in the parking lot.
So it was still a one-screener in December 1982. When did it get tri-plexed?

The whole thing’s gone. Nothing remains.
Hum drum, no frills 80’s era AMC plex. Went here about 3 or 4 times maybe (I used to work down the street).

Quite possibly one of the best megaplexes ever built.
With all that drama, Pacific probably couldn’t wait to tear this place down!
Pretty looking place. Shame it’s gone.
The correct name of the theatre is The Bridge Cinema de lux (Deluxe is not spelled in it’s normal way at this theatre).

I go here semi-regularly. Never seen or heard of any horror stories like the one depicted above. It’s always safe when I’m here.

THAT comment is a perfect example of why many times it’s best to keep your opinions to yourself. Such hatred and cynicism makes me sick to my stomach!
I (a lifetime MJ fanatic) will be there will bells on!
I betcha this looked absolutely stunning in the unsplit GCC Avco Center. I would LOVE to hear any of those stories.
Feeling nostalgic today…

Only movie I recall seeing here was “Indiana Jones and the Temple of Doom.”
Went here a ton of times – most notably to see “Splash,” “Supergirl,” and “Breakin 2 – Electric Boogaloo.”
