that was generally how mall Cinemas used to be signed. This sign looks like the old Serif font signage that GCC used in the 70’s and 80’s mainly so the mall could change the operator without a need to change out the signage.

it’s how there competing with Alamo Drafthouse and Movie Tavern that there AMC Dine-in locations directly clone. the new remodels include Mcguffins Bars in both AMC and AMC Dine-in theaters. the AMC near me that had it put in never had any issues with the bar and drunk guests mainly due to the fact that it’s a bar they will not give you a drink if you look drunk like any other bar.

so far all we have on 2001 is a teaser trailer with the end card just mentioning that it will play as a special engagement in select theaters in 7mm. https://in.reuters.com/video/2018/04/03/2001-a-space-odyssey-trailer-released-ah?videoId=414363725&videoChannel=101&channelName=Top+News so far it looks like the bookings are not done yet. there is also a press rlese with a hi res poster saying it will be on 70mm film. the theaters showing it will more than likely be the same ones that ran dunkirt in that format. https://www.businesswire.com/news/home/20180328006021/en/Warner-Bros.-Pictures-Celebrates-50-Years-Stanley

they do use the same sensor to scan 65mm film for distribution including 2001:A Space Odyssey http://www.in70mm.com/newsletter/2001/65/ultrascan_70/index.htm Based on the IGN article the 2001 50th release will be on film in France then Digital in the US in 4K in May. AMC dos not have the film page up yet or a list of participating theaters. http://www.ign.com/articles/2018/04/03/2001-a-space-odyssey-celebrates-its-50th-anniversary-with-70mm-4k-re-release

I was Quoting from the Wikipedia page on 70mm film. “There are three types of digital cinema cameras with a 65 mm sensor, the Phantom 65, the Arri Alexa 65 and the forthcoming IMAX 2D Digital Camera. Otti International’s Phil Kroll developed the world’s first 65/70 mm telecine transfer system. This camera has been used in Hollywood to digitally master 70 and 65 mm films.” https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/70_mm_film#Digital_70_mm_cameras

Looking at a list of theaters that have 70mm projection this theater is not listed so AMC is only projecting 2k Digital here and saving the 70mm for there PLF theaters that project in 4K. the last ones installed are at the LOC, MPAA, and the NCTA. http://www.redballoon.net/current70mmus.html

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/70_mm_film#Technical_specifications the digital DLP projectors used currently are able to project in both 35 mm and 70 mm. IMAX is also a 70 MM film stock and both Dolby Cinema and Prime @ AMC are also projected in 70 mm. the former Carmike theaters have there internal 70mm large format auditoriums still branded as BigD.the way films are being sent out now are basically just the distributors shipping the film on a encrypted external Hard Disk that docks to the computer hooked up to the Projector.

Currently AMC has been sticking with putting there low screen count theaters under there AMC Classic banner and for now they are not getting the recliners. Currently the only other 1 screen AMC location left open post carmike merger is the AMC Navy Pier IMAX in CHICAGO IL that has the Reclining seats that IMAX is requireing at all current installs and reserve seating. the IMAX and DOLBY Cinema Recliners are different from the “AMC Signature Recliners” The Dolby seats have a speaker system built in to the seat itself and IMAX puts in the Black high back recliners in all there current install.

the fact it’s under the new AMC Classic does say something about how AMC saw the market conditions of some of Carmike’s older locations. Before AMC would have merged and closed all the low traffic locations carmike had. the current CEO opted thisa time to take them in but brand them as Classic and to put in basic upgrades to bring the theater up to Basic AMC Standards and run them as Discount Theaters and keep the Carmike logo and discount programs going. I do know that like all discount programs the staff get a per head bonus to get new members an with AMC having a two level system the free probably has a lower payout then the paid. Carmike Rewards members last year along with the Sundance rewards program did get for both levels got Bonus coupon added to the merged accounts accounts. Carmike rewards members got the next reward you would have received in the Carmike Rewards program. Sundance Partners got a reward gift for switching over with the same email for both the old Carmike account and the new AMC account using the same email. https://www.amctheatres.com/carmike

The theater got it’s new door decals' up and more of the Carmike signage has been removed. The road side sign has the playing films no longer posted on it just a notice to check AMC theaters website for show times. I expect that once the new AMC neon arrives it will get replaced by a AMC logo with the golden circles background.

Article on the closing apparently AMC had put some work in to it before shutting it down. https://smokeybarn.com/springfield-movie-theater-closing-after-nearly-a-century-of-operation/ Hopefully someone like new vision theaters will pick it up.

It’s worth complaining just to get it in there database the hitch during the merger seems to be the absorbed Carmike staff not changing over well to the new polices and lying about the stubs program. Apparently a bunch keep telling people that the Tuesday discount is exclusive to premier when the free insider level also gets the tickets at $5 at the box office. The support staff is very good at getting things fixed. The owners changed but they still have the same local staff.

Ironically AMC if they still own the building could reopen it as a AMC Classic Theater or just sell it off to New Vision Theaters who took over most of the locations divested by order of the DOJ to acquire Carmike. I would guess that AMC took the management contract when Disney built the town as they owned the other theater in disney’s Reedy Creek Improvement District in Lake Buena Vista, FL. the town was put in a different county but having a Vintage style Twin when in driving distance is a 24 screen operated by the same company tht must have caused internal cannibalization with it’s older sister. it would just market better as a Budget Theater and if AMC does not want to sell it running it as a AMC Classic would bring in more bodies as the ticket prices would be cheaper and locals would get the Theater day camp program the classic’s run.
