The Marboro has recently been sealed by the FDNY. Regal has made NO ATTEMPTS to seal this theater. The interior has been vandalized heavily. The lack of heat has caused the plaster ceiling in the balcony to collapse in many places. Whatever they plan to do, DO IT SOON!
I was in the former Loews 46th Street tonight with a fellow theater buff. The marquee has NOT been removed. The furniture store takes up the lobby, auditorium up to the end of the balcony and upper mezzanine. Quite a bit of this theater remains and a trip to buy furniture is well worth it. I asked the manager if we could see beyond the wall and while she does not allow people in there, she made an exception. Here is what we found: The entire main floor has been leveled and tiled. It is used as a storeroom for the furniture store. No seats remain. All plasterwork and statues are still there. All of the balcony seats remain as well. Overall while this theater is I’d say 90% intact, It would need A LOT of work. There is quite a bit of water damage in many areas of the ceiling. I am going back soon with my camera and will provide a link to the pictures. If anybody has any questions, Feel free to email me.
I believe the Marboro and Walker were “Cousins” Do you have any info on the Marboro such as the builder etc. I think the Marboro was always movies due to the lack of dressing rooms but I may be wrong. If you have any info on the Marboro, Can you please post it on the Marboro page? Thanks!
Passed the theatre yesterday. STOP WORK order from the buildings department on the door. I hope the Rock Community Church does not abandon the theatre and move elsewhere.
This theater is now totally abandoned and deteriorating fast. The owners won’t even secure the place. Graffiti all over the place inside. Plaster ceiling falling down. Sad state of affairs.
The 5 Loews Wonder Theaters were: 175th Street, Paradise, Jersey, Valencia and Kings. While great theaters, The Pitkin and the 72nd Street were not part of the “Wonder Theater” group.
Listing should be changed to Loew’s Coney Island.
When the demolition was first announced, A sign on the theater read: Under Demolition. Coming soon 12 screen cinema.
Wishful thinking.
Listing should be changed to Loew’s Kings
This listing should be changed to Loew’s Pitkin.

It seems that the auditorium of this theater is now the auditorium of the Public School which was built behind it a few years back.
Any idea when work will start?
I am suprised this dump lasted as long as it did.
When 4 new screens opened in July 2002, The 4 screen UA Marboro was closed. Typical UA screwing one neighborhood to cater to another.
Wrong theater. This place was 4 screens.

I will be in Chicago in March. Is the Chicago open for tours? Or can you only go in when there is a show? Any info will be appreciated.

This former movie house is now home to a Key Food supermarket. Theater closed mid 1950’s.
I will be in Chicago for a week in early March. Is it safe to assume if I go to the Uptown, There is no way to see inside?
Any updates?

The balcony and seats are still intact.
Something is going on here. It seems that there are contractors working in the theater and from what I was told, UA WILL reopen it. We shall see.
STAY TUNED! Rumor has it something BIG is going to happen to this theater soon!
Any Idea what the plans are?
This former theater is now a Walgreens drug store. Sad transformation.
