so many of us that ran theaters could tell our stories but i doubt people would believe them. hahaha i started as a manager at 17 and had some wild nights
they just repainted and put all new doors on the joint (i know cause they were working on it as i painted my new theater) only to see it maybe come down in oct…what a waste, but finding parking there is a nightmare
im 27 started projection when i was 16 becuse no one else was able or intrested in running the booth, started with 8 moved to 16 then 24 down to 7 did a classic single screen now back to 5. and i recall (knock on wood) 2 brain wraps and 3 late starts in all that time, i love being up there assembling the films and trailers being the man behind the most important part of the theater experiance
the franks allow the theater to sit, it closed down after the summer of 04, i remember seeing bewitched after a hockey tournament in atlantic city
i drove past a week or 2 ago and its boarded up. not a bad area to have a summer run movie house that works outside the box from the regular summer shows
Ventnor Twin Theatre
Ventnor City, NJ
5211 Ventnor Avenue
Ventnor City, NJ 08406 United States
i love this location, this theater has 2 screen between the ocean city garden district an the nicer part of ac
one screen could be for family and summer friendly films, the other for repertory classics and film series events (cult faves like blade runner, fight club, western classics, hollywood classics of the 40’s and 50’s)
glassborrow nj has a fantastic old theater thats just sitting and rotting and so close to the college, could be huge for art and repertory films plus college film events
no i understand what MPOL is saying as far as an agenda. when there are other options to be explored to help every area of a buisness grow instead of cutting off the nose to spite the face, but i can see your side as well IAN its this companies money and they can do what ever they want with it including showing movies when people are not home from work yet, or not allowing me to hang movie posters or advertise
yeah, and i live allmost an hour from the theater i run, but the moment we stopped showing classics another chain localy picked them up and advertise the shows and SHOW TIMES and they make out like bandits, i love films, i love showing and prepairing and talking about films, but i allso have to pay my bills and put gas in my car so some times the things you love dont love you back
i do enjoy very muchh seeing indie theaters in the shadows of the regals and amcs able to carve out a piece for themselves, in the town im in i have to choose the content of my films carfully so it cuts out some fun events others are able to do. but the one thing i had going for me was one classic film a month in 35mm which i handled and we did well despite the lack of advertising. but your right if i have learned anything in the last YIKES 10 years i have been doing this (at the old age of 27 now) is all i can do is keep trucking and pick my battles
the broadway theater in pitman nj, its an 86 year old recently fully restored single screen house, the movies have been pushed to the backround to make room for more plays and concerts so im doing it by myself took a paycut to save the films in 09
but there is potential if i was just allowed to add my 2 cents from time to time
your efforts are fantastic, its good to see people taking matters into there hands instead of your posting about it online, the economy is bad now and sadly we are going to see so many treasures fall in 09
