It won’t hurt the big chains since they’ll just jack up prices even higher than ever.
What it will do is hurt the little independent theaters and force them out of business.
The Harbor Theater was an independently owned theater. Coming Attractions Theatres operates that 1980’s four screen multiplex dump in the new section of town. They ran the Harbor out of business.

D & R Theatre (in Aberdeen)
Aberdeen Theatre (in Aberdeen, around the corner from D&R, this theater is now being used as a church, but the interior is still intact pretty much as a theater)
From what I’ve seen on the theater website, it looks like they are building a new “performing arts center” around the corner from the theater. So then they are not rebuilding the Twilight movie theater?
All of the Regal Cinemas have that expensive “captioning” system. However, not all movies are available with the captioning. Plus the fact that many times no one shows up to the captioned showings.
Don’t forget the small independent theaters are already overburdoned with expenses like a very high minimum wage so they cannot afford these systems.
Theater is still not open and there is no website.
www.roxyplayhouse.com no longer works.
Seems you have to use www.firemac.org again for their website
Exactly. It’s too expensive to go to the movies let alone buy a DVD.
The League of Historic American Theatres as well as the Theatre Historical Society have just the documents you need.
Yeh but isn’t Renton already way overscreened now?

The Chehalis Theater is set to reopen in May 2009 as a second run theater.
Confirmed. They are using a video projector and showing DVD’s.
Around my area business is down…..way down.
Alas this is doomed to fail. Showing DVD’s on a painted wall….give me a break!
This is great news. A new drive-in theater to be built!

That ought to be a good start to your list.
So this is a building that was never a theater before?
No mention was made of format and from the picture in the newspaper story, it looks like they will be showing videos.
That’s not the case in my locality. Theaters are closing left and right due to poor attendance. High ticket prices are indeed keeping people away.
The fact of the matter is the piracy is not coming from in-theater recording, but rather from studio screeners and other sources within the studio!
I think they are throwing their money away on that video projector. Look at the flops like Jonas Brothers to show on it!
