Could this be it on the left? I’ve looked through all the Long Beach listings, and this is the only one that looks to be the right distance away from the back of the Fox West Coast
While I love the restoration they did on the “GLOBE” letters and the globe itself, are they ever going to do anything with the rest of the marquee? Besides all the missing neon, the flimsy 740 banner looks awfully temporary for a club that’s been there five years already.
There’s a great video documentary that airs now and then on the local cable access channel GTV6. I can’t get the MS Silverlight plugin to work right now, but it might be found somewhere here. You might have to wait for the next time “Exploring Historic Glendale: Alex Theatre” comes up on the schedule and watch it off the live feed:
The Regency 2 was a few doors down the block, listed here as the Temple Theatre, its early name. The Sands became the Regency 1 and the neighboring U.S./Temple became Regency 2.
The zoning info claims it was built in 1962, so the current 1920s look would probably be a newly-added retro look, rather than an original façade that’s been uncovered. It’s still laid out inside with a “lobby” area with two sets of double doors into the main hall.
Not to be confused with the current “Disneyland Theatre” (the live open-air stadium next to It’s A Small World that used to be called “Videopolis”), or with the Main Street Cinema (still open, but was converted long ago from a standard single-screen theatre showing vintage movies into six screens around the room showing 1920s Mickey Mouse shorts).
The Rialto Theatre was built by local showman L. Lou Bard, who had an Egyptian interior in each of his showplaces. His other 'Bard's' were [...] Bard's Glendale-1924 in Glendale (now demolished)
Since yesterday???

There’s a “Fox West Coast” roof sign on the right of this photo:

Now to figure out what the theatre in the foreground is…
Is this is, or was this another Terrace theatre?

The Sands in 1983
Cinematour has this one tiny photo of the Regency 1 right after it became the banquet hall, before it was completely remodeled.
Here’s its neighbor, the U.S. (formerly Temple), which became the Regency 2
And here’s the Facebook page for the banquet hall that’s in place of the Regency 1/Sands now.

Oh. They uncovered the old façade.
That “Recent exterior view” at the top of the page isn’t so recent anymore… ;–)
Here’s a 1920 photo of Pershing Square (with actual trees!) and the Auditorium.

I second Don S’s “wow.” Especially when you compare it to recent interior photos of Detroit’s United Artists Theatre.
Okay, this definitely used to be called the Victory Theatre. Here’s a good photo, until USC messes up all their links again (grumble)

And Cinematour has a couple photos that used to also be on the Bijou Memories site, which is now defunct:
