This coming memorial day weekend will mark 10 years since this theater opened on the 50th anniversary of the mall’s opening. Just like a decade ago, a Pirates movie is being played here.

The hall turns 85 this christmas. Any chance they’ll have an anniversary event or will they wait until 90 in 2022 and perhaps 2032 when it turns 100?

Reserved seating doesn’t need to be at this theater, it has suffered from wear and tear.

i actually went the weekend after the opening and the first movie I saw there was Borat on a big screen. I saw Happy feet months after it came out with my family. This was when the only digital projection they had was for the preshow and then sometime in the late 00s fathom events. It wasn’t until the 3d craze in 2009 with Avatar that AMC started to invest in 4k projectors as well as digital IMAX to draw moviegoers to a movie back when 3d movies for home viewing was expensive.

Me too…the only thing that will irk me is the reserved seating. When Dolby Cinema at Clifton Commons opened, they were putting in the letters and numbers for the reserved seating process to work. By the following weekend, that plan worked in effect. So far, advance sales for guardians in dolby at clifton have sold out already over the imax 3d version.

The tisch family bought the Loews corporation and used it to buy everything from hotels to cigarettes to watches after it sold off MGM in 1959. Years later Tri-Star would buy the chain and some theatres would show their product and sold Coke since Coke had a share in it. When Sony bought the chain in 1989, it installed SDDS in many of its bigger theatres much like its competitor AMC did. Loews would later buy several chains, including Star Theatres, as well as Magic Johnson’s chain of urban cinemas, before merging with Cineplex Odeon in 1998, which bought several other chains in the 80s while under part control from MCA. The Loews Cineplex Chain filed for Chapter 11 much like General Cinema did years after due to the recession, unlike AMC which was healthy and bought the latter and then the former in the early 2000s before upgrading all theatres with digital 3d and imax. At the start of this decade they renovated several theaters with recliners, then ETX, until Wanda took over from china, which helped spur more renovations and took over several small hollywood studios like Legendary to blend with partly owned Open Road Films, known for the Oscar winning 2015 film Spotlight. The rest is history. AMC is the Mcdonald’s of theaters.

They should renovate every non laser imax with reclining seats and reserved seating as imax is the hottest ticket in all of premium cinema. Furious 8 is the widest imax release of all time even though the movie doesn’t fill up the screen, some trailers like transformers have imax footage in it.

I like the ads on this theater page. Shows you how showmanship was during the time that the Hall played new movies.

Not really. It still does well for indie films and is known for showing midnight showings of cult movies.
