I know you posted a comment in Sept 2006 that I am going to answer now. I Am Curious Yellow played all summer at the Hollywood Theatre. They had police stationed there during th hours of operation. Interesting how in 1970 there was such a fuss about thatmovie. I bet today it would be rated R.
I think that the show this year was great. I think part of the problem is there hasn’t been a blcokbuster movie that has won in years. Last year Dreamgirls which should have been nominated wasn’t. In the past few years the best picture winner has not swept the awards.
Million Dollar Baby-4
Crash-3
The Departed-4
No Country-4
Holywood needs a blcokbuster movie. The one good thing about this year was that only 2 of the acting catagories were locks. This is the first year I can remember that the supportin actress catagory had a different winner Globes-Cate Blanchet,Sag-Ruby Dee and Oscar -Tilda Swinton. I do think they voted honestlyfor the best actress as Maion Cortillard was incredible.
From what I know, an Embass Suites now sits on the site of the former Apollo theater. It closed as a burlesque house arounf 1977 because the auditorium was condemed. I knew Charlie Tannenbaum who owned the theatre from my banking days, After they closed the theatre, the lobby was used for charectures. That burned and some friends of mine opened a clothing store there.
The theater was a hoot Friday Dec 21 for the opening of Sweeney Todd. They sereved Mrs Lovetts meat pies and had a barber chiar in the lobby for Sweeny haircuts. What a hoot.
AMC would have never opened this in 96 as a twin had they not known it would be a gold mine. It is also a stadium seating theatre. The town it is located in a owned by Disney so I am sure they had something to do with them putting in the theatre.
The food is really excellent. We shared a small pizza and a cheeseburger. **** for the food.
Please update chain to Cinebarre. When I posted it as a new theatre it was not an option
Thanks
Mike
I just got back form Chiagoa nd had a chacne to stroll by this theatre yesterday. How wonderful to see an old movie palace still in use. I think they may be adding and 8th scree, The marquee has a slot now for 8 screens.
I can’t afford to contirbute a lot, but will be more than happy to contribute what Ican. I love this site. As it was posted above, this keeps the grand old theatres alive
To my knowledge AMC hasn’t changed any of it signs. Maybe they plan on keeping the theaters AMC/Loews like RKO/Stanley Warner kept the 2 names when they merged.
I agree with the post above. I went to AMC Granite Run 2 weeks ago when I was in town and AMC sucks. The theater had so many ads plus the popcorn was so salty it made me sick. The manager was nice enough to refund my money.
I grew up going to this theater in the 60’s and 70’s. I just was in the area lastweek and my cousin said the neighborhood is absolutley terrible that they have tons of cops when there is a show there becuase it’s so unsafe.
I was just back in Philly last week and was sadden to look at the nespaper and see nothing but megapexes. Ecept for 3 or 4 theaters all the others are gone. Even the popular Eric Pennsuaken aka UA Pensauken is no longert in existance.
In the late 70’s I used to go to this theater when I went to visit my friend. I remember that had great curtains that went up, but no masking. When the Citrus 6 opened it put a damper on this theatre.
In the recent movie they used a theatre that was supposed to be the Fillmore East.
Is there anything new happening with this theatre?

The last year for this theatre was 1982. During it’s last few years it was run by the Sameric chain.

I have asked the same thingi n abouve posts and never got an answer. I knew Craig when I worked at the Festival in 1980 and 81.

Information needs to be updated. This is no longer part of the City Cinema Chain. To my knowledge I can’t rememebr when it ever was.
