South Bay name has been “reapplied” to the Montauk Highway side of the building (perfectly aligned). The small dumpster has been removed. Nothing else has appeared to have changed since early July.
At a Trustees meeting on July 8th the developers offered an amended plan. They were given 6 months to get a demolition permit and a building permit. There will be a public hearing in October. The developers expressed concern, as well they should, that the never ending deferred dates are ridiculous. This project has been in the works for a decade.
Regal and AMC do not serve the east end. Stony Brook is furthest AMC; Ronkonkoma for Regal. Regal was going to build in Riverhead but the landlord of the shopping center was demanding they virtually overhaul his shopping center. East end is served by the (seasonal) Greenport, Mattituck, Hampton Arts Twin, East Hampton, Southampton, Plaza, Mastic, Hampton Bays, Cinema Deluxe (Holbrook), Movieland (Coram), the Port Jefferson Cinemas and, after the rebuild, Sag Harbor. Occasional films at WHBPAC. Look at the South Shore – every community used to have at least one theater. Last big ones are the AMC Fantasy (RVC) and Regal Lynbrook. Next east small theaters in Baldwin, Bellmore, Seaford, Merrick and nothing until the aformentioned Plaza in Patchogue. Nothing in Valley Stream, Wantagh, Freeport, Bay Shore, Lindenhurst, Oakdale, Amityville, Copiague, the Massapequas, Babylon. The 100 seat Plaza in Patchogue is nothing compared to the two large theaters, the All Weather multiplex and the Sun Wave twin which used to be there.
If you could get a hold of the Movie Timetable from Newsday for that date you could probably figure that out. Also, those were the days when theaters advertised so that might be evident in a Newssday ad.

Unlike Craigslist where anyone can remove a comment I thought that only the originator could remove one on Cinema Treasures.
This is a reverse situation. Site used to be a supermarket. Then became a theatre (much like the theater in Mastic).

If you get out your magnifying glass you can barely see the small Ramrod signage on the photo which I’ve uploaded.
It may have been part of a chain but not AMC or Bow Tie since they didn’t exist in the 1980s.

fred – certain locations may be saturated but in others you have to drive more than 15 miles to a theater.

Now it’s a Famous Footware location. As a result they changed the roof line to conform to the corporate image.
