I don’t understand this lawsuit. Usually theaters have hearing devices for the deaf and why would a blind person go to a movie? AMC is not one of my favorite chains since they were at the root of all our old historic theaters disappearing with there twining and now mutilplexes, but they are getting a bum rap here.
I don’t understand what the purpose is for the Frank’s to apply for a demolition permit. Do they intend onrebuilding a stadium theater? They have always been the pits of theater owners. Ilive in NC and it worries me that they are opening a lot of theaters in this state.
This theater was built when they demolished the South Phils drive in to build Veterans stadium. After being in operation a few years it was twinned then just closed. It probibly closed around 1973 when George Hamid closed his theater sin Atlantic City.
Does anybody know which chain ran this theater? I remember righ on the beach there was a GCC twin in the 70’s that was sold to AMC. Of course they closed it.
I saw in Sunday’s paper the Ziegfeld is having the premiere of Dreamgirls. They are offering $25.00 tickets which include reser ed seats and something else I can’t remember.
Looking at the photot posted by Cinemark Fan, it look slike the restaurant had what look slike a movie marquee. Was there another theater in the spot where the restaurant was?
I went by the theater a few weeks ago and this is what is happening. They spent $100,000.00 renovating the front and the lobby. The box office is beautiful as is the whole front. The lobby is being used by the owners right now as a real estae office. The plans are to renovate the auditorium which was condemened in 1993 and open as a dinner theate within the next 1-2 years. I will try to take a photo when I return there next week.
When Regal shows films like Saw Hostel and some of the other crap out there, they should not hesiate to show this film. Obviouly they are being paid off by the idiots in the GOP party for Bush.
Hey guys here is a question. What is the Ziegfeld using for this engagement for the marquee? Is it the old white with the black letters or did they get the glass one that most theaters use now like the one in the picture above
Bravo to this theater owner. The films this year have sucked. This is one of the worst years I can remember in a long time. Hollywood certainly has put out a bunch of crap this summer.
Yeah going independant may be a great way to go when the regular films are so terrible.
Crazy Bob
Wasn’t the original screen that was in the front blown down during a storm which is when they moved it in the back? I never knew the Frank’s owned it from the begining.
Bill
I hope the Ziegfeld ast least shows the 1.85 version. A few years ago when they had the big 60 year re release I saw it at a Regal stadium theater and it was a 16mm print. I was pissed. They opened the masking like they would for scope and you had this little square picture in the middle of this huge wall to wall screen.
Interesting point Luis V . I live in Asheville, NC and even though the theaters are open 365 days a year, Many resturants and small groceriy stores are closed on Sunday like the old days in the 60’s and 70’s. I actually went to films last year on Christmas Eve and New Years Eve. They fell on Sat and that is usuallyour movie night.
Does anybody know much about the Cinema Village East. It was in the paper one week. Where is it located exactly? I si t showing first run films?

That would be great Robert. We should try to find out the e-mail address and send them this suggestion.
Is this the same Moss family that owned the Criterion on broadway?
I don’t know why Clearview or Regal doesn’t come in and reopen this theater.

I lived in NYC from 76-83 and do not remember this theater. Was it right on 72 and broadway?
Is the theater still intact and can maybe be reopened?
I beleive that it was the Mark Hellinger aka Times Square Church

Three cheers for this theater and it’s management.
Did anybody go to GWTW Thursday? What format did they present it in?

It is now occupied by a heathcare day center.
Craig
Are you the Craig that managed the Ziegfeld in the early 80’s? I worked for Joe Torres at the Festival in 81 and 82.

Afrotrek
What happened to Carsons? I know Macy took over firleds but I didn’t hear anything about Carsons. I know this isn’t a movie theater
