Because there are so many reports that there is little to no doubt. Also I want to be able to go there. It’s a beautiful building with 25 different auditoriums. I want to be able to go and check out a film there.
Who is? Please link me to even a single comment “calling her post BS”
We can both go and check AMC Empire 25. I am pretty sure that that is their carpet. For example the dolbly auditorium there has a different carpet than others. Plus there isba video attached where you can hear the movie playing.
And no, I know plenty of theaters that have 0 bed bug complains on yelp.
No, I didn’t. Other people reported bed bugs at the 34th st one.
She isn’t the only one. It’s masses of people. Time and time again. BTW I’m pretty sure each auditorium has different carpets. So they can very well be from AMC Empire 25.
It could have happened to both. Her boyfriend gave the photos to her. There is even a video from the auditorium!
Name me one other theater that has been consistently for 7 years been gettings bed bug complain after bed bug complain?
Did you read the change.org page? No, not all proof of google came from me. In fact, none of it comes from me. I didn’t even live in NYC before 2014 and reports date back to 2010. I give like 4 different links to news articles and one recent facebook post with proof plus an entire yelp page with bed bug reports in that change.org page. Even in the comments one guy said he got bit last week.
First, I don’t think I every asked AMC for a freebie. The first petition was directed at screening organizers, not AMC.
This one is directly at AMC. Regardless whether you pay for a movie or catch it for free, you shouldn’t be getting bed bugs home. It’s a no-brainer that AMC should renovate the Empire 25 or at least alert their customers.
There are A LOT of reports by people of bed bugs there. It’s not a joke anymore.
Bed bugs were again reported at this theater. This time the person took pictures of the actual bugs. This is now the 7th year since the bed bug scare for this theater went on the news in 2010. It’s time for AMC Empire 25 to renovate just like AMC Kips Bay 15 and AMC Village 7.

Exactly! It’s so crazy. Insane sound and you still can’t hear some of the dialogue! Seriously, Nolan!
And I don’t think they give the closed caption glasses for non-digital showings. (Or do they? Please let me know if they do.)
I actually kind of like the rumbling and the loud music BUT not when it’s for the entire movie. One or two action scenes to create drama – sure. But if you have seats rumbling at every 2 seconds it actually loses drama.
Still the IMAX screen is so huge I still find it worth it.
The regular auditoriums at Linc Square don’t have stadium seating to my knowledge. (Except for Loews which has balcony) So that might be why the patronage for these regular shows is scarce here. I’d probably visit here more often if they’d had stadium seating.
BTW it appears that Dunkirk is playing here alongside of IT in laser IMAX. Laset still fills up the whole screen for Dunkirk so worth checking out if not checked out in 70mm IMAX yet.
The fact that IMDb did that still bothers me. It was such a great board with so many people to discuss movies with! Now it’s gone. We should storm IMDb headquarters and demand our discussion board back!
At least they didn’t play “The Beguiled” in a scope format without masking. (at least I think they didn’t) I hate when theaters do that.
If I would be a theater, I wouldn’t like to use an auditorium with a scope screen for a flat movie anyways. Theaters should have one or two or more 1.85 screens. With such a screen, the lack of masking probably wouldn’t bother as much with “The Beguiled” than with a scope screen.
In general though, it really bothers me when chains like Regal or AMC or even local movie theaters don’t mask properly. If you can’t mask it, don’t play it.
Of course “The Beguiled” is different because of it’s rare format, but in general that should be a rule imo.
Whoa, @markp; didn’t know that all the other NYC theaters had to use the back up. While I do prefer digital I do really respect your decades as a projectionist. That takes dedication!
Interesting you mention the Fathom events @moviebuff82, because I once didn’t get to see the First Look previews because something was screwed up with the satellite projection.
Exactly! At least close the masking. But I doubt there is any as they did play 70mm for a while and ate planning on laser which is, I think, filling up the whole screen. But for regular digital showings it is very annoying. I might even prefer some random Multiplex to that, as they at least close the masking.
I’ve been to the IMAX here again and it just makes me upset how they only use the center of the screen. Especially during the credits you can see how it’s just a big image in the middle of a giant screen. I’ve never seen the whole screen here being used. I also can’t image how huge that would be.
It still stands out of other multiplex theaters because of the design. Especially NYC doesn’t really have much art in the theaters. Magic Johnson and maybe 34th St are the only theaters besides Lincoln Square that I know of that have special artwork inside.
“I actually was going to see Everybody Wants Some here a few weeks ago and when I arrived the showing had been cancelled so they could host a NYC premiere that night”
Fair point, but couldn’t you say that about any advance screening in general?
Maybe they should take one auditorium in 68th and just reserve it for premieres. 68th st is a nice venue which I think could work very well for premieres. The Loews theater foe example has balcony so stars could sit there.
I saw Civil War here. It was my first Imax visit. And is it true that they always only uss a certain part of the screen? It felt like they just wasted a huge chunk of space on the screen. Why not use it all? Even the expanded sequence had black bars all around (even though that sequence looked pretty amazing in that expanded format.)
One last thing @waterguy56 the digital version doesn’t have any extra title, while the 70mm has the extra title Roadshow. So that might be another good way to make sure you’re seeing the 70mm version.

Not just me. Not just one or two pictures. This has been happening for years.
Yes. That petition has 4 news articles and one link with an actual picture of a bed bug.

IMDB lists some scenes as 1:43 http://www.imdb.com/title/tt2527336/technical?mode=desktop
Seems right since Force Awakens also had one scene in 1:43.
I agree with ridethectrain. No need for 70mm when you got laser.

Regal E-Walk also has 4DX.
It’s priced about the same as IMAX. Though before noon IMAX is cheaper.
