The book Going To The Movies On Staten Island wrongly states both this and the Richmond theatre were demolished after closing. I went on Google maps street view and the building is still there. Evidently the Entenmann’s Bakery went out of business and there is a “For Lease” sign on the fence in front.
I was here once, when it was the porno-chic Eastworld – late ‘70s I think? My only memory is of buying popcorn , then climbing a very narrow (spiral?) staircase to the small and mostly unoccupied auditorium…..
KingBiscuits is correct. Actor George C. Scott leased one of the theatres for 1 year to show his movie. The girl I was seeing at the time dragged me to it. I also saw “Story of Joanna” here. it was a decent theatre from what I recall.

One of the movies in the ads was also playing at Eastworld, which was at 61st St and !st Ave. I remember going there once . There is no listing for it on this website , maybe it’s under a different name?
The video was frustrating to watch but had a few good images. When I was there the theatre was locked up so I couldn’t take a look. I also haven’t seen any more activity or updates on the Paramount , the club was supposed to open by next month. The high rise project across the street is dead in the water , I was told…
The other day I had business on New Dorp Lane and while there I had a look around. I was stunned by the amount of shops that had gone out of business and had “For Rent” signs in the windows. The ones that have managed to survive didn’t look like they had many customers. It will be interesting to see how Uncle Vinnie’s does when it opens….
I saw it yesterday as well , and all the other signage (for rent , etc.) has been removed from the marquee. I wish them well , this is a tough economy to start a business in…
Is there still a municipal lot nearby? If not they will face the same problem as the Paramount. Even as a drinking spot, anyone going there will drive, despite boozing. They will be too cheap to take a taxi in this economy . Grandpa Munster , are you out there?…..
Vito when I see the guy again I will ask about the pit , and if the stage will be preserved/repaired. I re-read your post about the floor having a slope , and it now made sense that it had to be leveled to make way for a dance club. If it is to be an upscale club they will need valet parking. Don’t know where they would park the cars…..
I got a better look yesterday and the walls are not yet fully restored. The person there told me the statues and ornaments have been sent out to be worked on. Concrete was poured to level the auditorium floor and a wood floor will be built over it to allow for dancing. The roof has been fully repaired. I hope it does well as an entertainment venue but with the loss of the municipal lot across the street I think parking is a concern.
I actually saw the auditorium today. The side door was open with a fence in front of it that you could see through. It was kind of dark in there but from what I could see the owner is doing a great job. The walls of the auditorium looked like they had been restored and I think there was a new floor. All the seats had been removed. The curtain on the screen area was closed. As I was leaving a worker (the owner?) was returning from lunch , he didn’t have time to talk but he said they expect to open by October. I thanked him for the restoration of the theatre. I will definitely be passing by more often as I live about 10 minutes away. If I am allowed in I will try to take some cel pictures to post on the site.
I saw Taking of Pelham 123 here on Thursday. Overall a good moviegoing experience , despite 3 minor complaints. I agree there should be restrooms on both levels. The existing ones should have been cleaner at 11 am on a weekday. And in auditorium 12 there is a musty odor from the carpeting when you first enter. I did not sample any of the concession items.
Vito can you tell me , if you were to enter through those side doors on Union Street what part of the theatre is that? I don’t think they were ever open when the place was operating.
I was very happy with the management’s handling of my complaint. They assured me they would check all concession stock . I received 2 passes which I will use to check out the Empire 25 and the 34th street theatre.
I was at this theatre yesterday for the first time. Everything was OK except for one problem. The nachos are served in a tray with a resealable cover and seperate holders for the container(s) of cheese (this is very handy). I ate less than half and brought the box home with me. It was there I noticed “sell by May 19” on the box. I’m not so concerned about the chips but does this mean the cheese was also 3 weeks old? I will call the manager today…

In the book Going To The Movies on Staten Island it states the theatre closed in 1928.
Thanks AA.

Does anyone know how Vinnie’s is doing? I read there’s another comedy club at the old UA 14….
I’ve seen them on a ladder monkeying with the marquee as I drive by. When does the club open?
Does anyone remember the hot girl that worked there with the super-long nails? She used to work the box office
I am disappointed that there still has not been a movie event at the theatre.

If link doesn’t work you can go to YouTube and type in Ryan Maher Lane Theatre.
YouTube has a tour of the ongoing renovation at []http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zP739ytw2pQ](http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zP739ytw2pQ[/url)[/url]

The movie I saw here today wasn’t great , but the theatre was. I was very impressed.

When I noticed Cinema Treasures has changed the theatre’s status to “Closed/Restoring” it made me feel good.
