Sadly, The Palmetto would start running X rated films.Dec 2 1970 has the X-rated “RIBALD TALES OF ROBIN HOOD”.Usually an X rated Double feature for this one time classy theatre.
I think in the Fifties alot of theatres were hosting local rock and roll groups to play on stage.I know the Imperial in Augusta did along with the Modjeska.Spartanburg’s Carolina theatre was doing much the same thing for the locals.Nov 2 1956 Friday night Late Show on stage “CLIFF MAC’S ROCK n ROLL REVUE OF 57” was playing on stage with a feature to follow,“RUNNING WILD”,Admission, rather high, was Seventy-five cents.
there was Litchfield Cinemas in Rome,Georgia a Triple I think, but I guess it went UA Too,GMNash.Litchfield i guess should be listed even though they did not last long.
the LaMar Theatre always in the Summer months above any movie title “AIR COOLED COMFORT”.Wonder how many just went in for the AC.June 6 1963 has “BARABBAS” playing with “40 POUNDS OF TROUBLE"starting June 9-12 and a big Kid Matinee on June 12 1963."FUEDIN'FUSSIN'and Fightin'” are playing with a festival of cartoon all ages are admitted for 35 cents. The Lamar like alot of small town theatres ran about three features a week.
fred, enjoyed the story on Buttered popcorn.I have been on CT a couple of years and that was the first time i had ever read that on the Butter. It was the same thing at the theatres I worked at.thanks.
Ex-Mayor Bob Young had a great idea.have Hollywood come in film a scene at the old Mall; like having it blown apart in an action movie.Haul the remains to the city dump and let mother nature reclaim it.But I would like to get in that Triple one more time.My son Kyle and some Friends slipped in one day and walked around.I told him never do that again,no telling who is in there, but Barry doggone it outta be able to pull some strings and get the three of us in there.dawn6770,that’s about the time the mall started going down hill it only had few years of decent folks shopping there.Every Town of any size has a “south Augusta” and I grew up on Rocky Creek Road right above the Mall.
I loved that one-sheet on “OSTERMAN WEEKEND” we played it 1983 I think,so by the time they got it it must have been second run.I wish I would have kept the one-sheet instead of giving it away.Great pictures.
Hard to Believe it was Georgia’s Largest when It opened. I have opening night picture of the Road Marquee and the three movies playing,if you can get them on I will mail them to you Russell. Thanks Mr,Jeter, that theatre certainly Changed my life forever.Russ, glad you didn’t marry a box office girl.
Great pictures, wish Clint would have been on the “WHERE EAGLES DARE"Marquee, but i guess at that time Burton might have been a tad more famous, just a tad.By 1970 Clint wouldn’t have to worry about top billing .
“MONTE WALSH” was playing on then a nice large screen before the hatchet job was to come.Admission was 50 cents until 3pm.
