Dickinson 6 Theatre

The Dickinson 6 was located on NW Bary Road just off Arrowhead Trafficway in the Gladstone area. A six screen complex operated by Dickinson Theatres, it opened June 12, 1987.

The theatre had a corner entrance with a semi marquee around the entrance and a large vertical over the marquee. There was an attraction panel on the side of the building toward the rear. The theatre that showed first run attraction when it first opened has been closed for some time. It was just three blocks from the shuttered Metro North Mall 6 and a short distance from the AMC Metro North Plaza 6.

Is this theater still standing? And if so, is it for sale?

So many memories from my teens of seeing movies here. Straight Talk, Noises Off, and Rescue Me were just a couple of the movies I saw here. It was a great theater, back in the day.

I went on an adventure and saw this theatre. So I decided to stop and look at it. All the windows are boarded up because all the glass was broken, I looked into a hole that I found and I saw the inside of the place completely vandalized. It was a sad sight to see. Who in their right might would ruin a beautiful theatre like that?

We’d been using this neglected building as an exterior on our comedy show for awhile and I’m sad to report as of July 2012, it’s been destroyed. We posted a tribute video to this place today. You can see it here: http://youtu.be/DYCURj5TX2I

I remember seeing Predator (1987) opening weekend. When my Mom was buying tickets I remember looking up at small tower of windows filled with sunlight.

Jun 11, 1993 – After school, waited in line for purchasing tickets AND waited in another line for seating. I remember getting real anxious outside the auditorium because we all could hear the film’s jump scares and audience reactions. I think there was a The Real McCoy trailer and a teaser trailer for The Flintstones (1994). That DTS Experience logo that had the disc explode into particles and then that thump with Jurassic Park title fade up.

Heart & Souls (1993) had 2 sneak preview showings that year. I remember it was a 2-for-1 combo with Jurassic Park. Now that I think of it – I saw Batman (1989) sneak preview there the weekend before it opened, too.

Other random stuff: Bingo (1990) banner hanging above the box office lobby and a banner for Freejack (film).

Saw Cliffhanger (1993), Dances With Wolves (1990), Thunderheart (1992) and whatever else the AMC Theatre wasn’t showing (even though Cliffhanger showed at the AMC a week before going to the dollar houses).
