i liked it too. This version is the 24 fps version, not the HFR Imax 3D version. The picture quality in 3d is awesome and the sound is immersive. The star trek preview was great in 3d as well as the 3d preshow.
From what i heard, the 48fps version in reald3d is getting bad reviews by critics and some fans. One bright side, the image in 3d is much sharper than regular 3d and imax 3d, making the movie more like a video game and/ or soap opera. If you go to the imax showing, a 9 minute trailer for Star Trek Into Darkness will play before the movie, where as for 2d and 3d showings of the hobbit the trailer will show. Pricing for both HFR 3D and reald 3d are the same, with imax 3d the most expensive.
i first saw LOA on the 1971 VHS print, it was good. Then i saw the widescreen 1989 vhs edition, and loved it. The DVD version from 2002 is terrible quality. I heard the 2012 version is better.
Just saw a concert by Graham Parker and the Rumour on friday night. It was awesome!!! The acoustics of this theater were ok but not as good as say radio city or other big venues. Seating is improved inside the theater and it was crowded.
Went to see the twilight saga breaking dawn part 2 last night, and they had the sound back on during the preshow but no slides before the preshow. Pretty weird. The presentation was pretty good and the sound was awesome. One thing I noticed is that if you sit closer to the screen it looks kinda jaggy with a grid-like picture. They showed the hunger games catching fire teaser which I haven’t seen online, and that was cool. Popcorn and soda combo is so expensive….no ticket takers near the box office, just that the cashier tore the ticket apart for me to bring into the theater. Movie not that crowded at all. Next week will be busy with the Hobbit dominating the box office. I heard reports that some people felt queasy after seeing the 48fps version of the hobbit…in this case, I’m so used to watching 24fps movies so standard imax 3d is a go.
I agree markp. The only times when the ziegfeld gets crowded are the movie premieres usually covered by the mainstream media. 35 years and one week ago, Close Encounters of the Third Kind had its world premiere in 70mm six track Dolby Stereo, being the first Spielberg film to play there. It was a huge success.
Went to see Skyfall in imax today, the film and presentation was great but the preshow, which runs on sattelite, had audio issues due to the hurricane that affected the dishes, so there was no sound. Hopefully they fix it soon next time I go see a movie. The theater was crowded mostly due to Twilight. Skyfall wasn’t that crowded.
Lincoln is now playing at this theater, in addition to The Sessions. Twilight Breaking Dawn part II is playing on plenty of screens and is doing robust business. Skyfall is still playing in IMAX in addition to regular format, i plan on seeing it on sunday morning to avoid the crowds later in that day.
AMC Rockaway will show the hobbit in HFR 3D on Mega screen, according to fandango, in addition to regular and imax 3d showings. A lord of the rings marathon showing all three extended versions of the saga will be shown before the movie’s release.
Probably yes. Currently Argo is playing at the Z. Great movie. What’s the next film to play? BTW, if Digiplex indeed buys Clearview, expect shares of Cablevision to fall like stuttering picture and sound and that of Digiplex to rise….if they buy Clearview will the name change?
did the hurricane do any damage to this theater? AMC must be lucky to close this theater the day the storm came in…now that power is restored to rockaway…people will start coming back to the movies while shopping for groceries. Lots of good films out…
Went to see a 4:50 showing of Argo. It was pretty good. I liked how Ben Affleck used grain in some scenes to make it like a 70’s movie. The 4k projection makes it look that way. Can’t believe all the hype for Skyfall during the preshow with a Sony commercial for gadgets and a making of trailer. The sound quality of the First look sucks. It’s only in right channel audio with no surrounds while the feature and trailers are in 5.1 surround sound. This is the same 2k format used for sattelite fathom events. 4k I believe was used for Lawrence of Arabia 50th a few weeks ago. As for AMC’s new ad campaign, I like it. Pretty simple.

That’s good to hear.

No, cineplex odeon owned the theater before it merged with Loews, then it was a loews cineplex before amc took over.

Life of Pi is now playing in 3d. The most recent UFC fight was streamed live via sattelite last week at this theater.
One of the best movie theater murals i’ve seen inside a theater. Reminds me of the Loews theater in nj.
How was the movie, thebrat? I heard that this movie will be this year’s Hugo.
how old is the film print?

Video is like 60fps when viewed on a tv. On Youtube it’s more like 30fps when seen on 480p.
I agree john. The bad part is that if clearview is sold, no free movie tuesdays for optimum customers.
Yeah. I hate how Clearview plasters other theater companies names.

From what I’ve seen on TV, the marquee is still the same, as Loews is a brand of AMC.

Advance tickets for The Hobbit go on sale November 7th.
