I remember this show well. We actually came in midway through the movie and then watched the stage show and the whole movie again. This show was better then some of the ones that followed that looked like high school staging.
Thank goodness places like these hang in there. Thats what suprises me about Brooklyn that people would rather go to the filthy cinder block Sheepshead Bay then some of the charming houses that were forced to close.

Yes Dawn of the Dead played the Rivoli, I forget the name of the releasing company but UA and Salah Hassanein owned the majority shares. There was also a time when the Rivoli was still a single screen and still getting top bookings when they had a week and a half gap before a big picture was opening. They ran a George Romero festival with a different double bill every three days.
I just bought the new DVD of Disneys “Happiest Millionaire' which advertises special Roadshow Edition on its cover. I remember seeing this film at the Music Hall. Did it really open Roadshow in other cities?
Im curious why you think this should be the Mayfair? Believe me I don’t like the name Embassy but thats what it’s last name was and as most people know it.
There are so many Disney films I would love to see on screen again. The problem is there are few prints available on them for some reason. Right now Mary Poppins is not even available for rental.

I’m glad I’m not the only one that hated Cats. I left at intermission which is something I NEVER do. I remember Hawai-Kai very well we went there prom night.
I thought this and the Centurys Triplex were both coming down? Has something changed?
I never saw a theatre where the candy counter was in the front of the theatre by the screen. Was this the only one?
The whole theatre is still sitting there intact?

I would not give City Cinemas a dime of my movie going money. To me Cinema 1 & 2 is long dead.
Anybody drive by here lately?
I drove by again yesterday I think it opens June17, but I can’t remember the title they had on the marquee.

I can’t believe I never heard of this theatre. Was it directly across the street from the RCMH?
Great letter Andy !!!!
Bob Meyers for many years managed the Gemini for UA. He was truely the old school of theatre managers.
I would love to see a picture of this place, sounds like it was awesome.

Sadly, General Cinema closed it in 1998 and the building was torn down in 2001.
When I read stories like this I wonder what the hell the movie business has become??????????
The place looks good on the outside, but it says the interior has been gutted.

OMG, I didn’t even notice that.

Look at how deco this was.
This shot also shows the Capitol in the background.
I never knew this place once had such a huge marquee.
Another great shot.
Here is an awesome shot of the Capitol. Sure looks different from when I saw it in the Cinerama years.
