I know alpinedownhiller. I can stand loud noises in the theater by the surround sound even if there’s babies crying during quiet scenes. AMC should consider lowering the volume in the IMAX screen so that there are no rumblings next to the restroom or an earthquake could happen ala sensurround. Also, AMC needs to make their seats more comfortable and the armrests more plushy ala Garden State 16.
As expected, in addition to the new releases opening this weekend, The Artist finally opens at this theater, becoming the first silent movie (albeit with sound effects and music in the digital soundtrack) to be played in this theater.
Speaking of Hugo, it’s the most nominated movie at this year’s oscars. I’m sure AMC will show the 9 movies next week when AMC Best Picture Showcase returns….
This weekend, Underworld 3D opens in RealD 3d on one screen, one 2D screen with one showtime, and IMAX 3D on one screen. Hugo is still playing in 3D.PeterAppruze, did you see hugo yet? Have they solved the cropping problem?
This year in May marks 5 years since the theater opened as part of the mall’s 50th anniversary expansion project. As of this year, nothing is planned. Look at how 5 years have passed. This theater was the second in Paramus to have digital projection for full use early in its cycle, then one of its screens became a Liemax. Its predecessor has become a large fitness gym. This is one of the better AMCs in NJ, better than Rockaway.
Advance tickets now on sale for “Underworld: Awakening”, the first movie of 2012 to be shot in real 3D, in both Real D and Liemax 3D, as well as Haywire and Red Tails. None of these movies will do well at the box office due to NFL playoffs and other diversions.
This theater is truly the greatest cinema treasure in the world. The famous sidewalks, the fancy exterior, and many film premieres including Star Wars. How is this theater experience compared to the AMC in Rockaway?
Someone should change the photo, as this is an old picture of the Empire and not a current one. I never heard about the empire theater until i read an ad for it in the NY Times, the best newspaper to read movie ads and listings, not to mention local reviews of big movies. When the theater opened, there were plenty of ads and showtimes. As the theater operates into its 13th year as an AMC, the movie ad business has shrunk to a few, and fewer people are reading the Times and other papers and looking online.
I agree. Many people say that AMC and Regal and Cinemark are like the Big Brothers of movie theater exhibition. AMC for one isn’t publicly traded but will plan an IPO in the near future unless fewer people go to the movies because of issues like this. This is why people are staying home and watching movies on their mobile devices, consoles and bluray players, computers, and cable and sattelite tvs so they can enjoy the theatrical experience at the comfort of their own home.
This friday, Hugo returns in 3d, tinker tailor soldier spy opens (great reviews), and The Devil Inside opens on two screens, hoping to become the 2012 version of Paranormal Activity. Once again, fewer people will go to the movies this weekend because of nfl playoffs including a big giants game on sunday which will hurt the amc rockaway box office.
Nope but i’ve seen pictures of the interior online on CT and other picture sites..and i go right by there every time i visit the big apple. I also go by the regal ewalk as well.
Went to a 10 am showing of Mission Impossible Ghost Protocol, since the IMAX showing was during the afternoon. Movie was good popcorn fun, although I had to sit through too many trailers before the movie began, in addition to the pre-show. I can see where they would show certain scenes in full imax, such as the tower climbing scene and the sandstorm in Dubai. Great soundtrack. My suggestion if you see a long movie, then go to the bathroom before the movie begins as to avoid long lines.
Nice photo. That’s how i remember going to the outer theaters when i saw “Exit Wounds”.
Advance tickets now on sale for Secret World of Arietty (japanese anime movie dubbed by Disney) and John Carter 3D and Liemax 3D.

Bad management…thankfully the artist is playing at rockaway, in which the lights fade during the amc “Coke/Magic Chairs” intro.
3D movies upcoming…. Star Wars Episode I 3D and Journey 2 3D (IMAX, RealD)-February 10 Ghost Rider 2 3D- February 17

Chatham cinema is one in Morris County that shows an indie movie on one screen. It’s in a tiny shopping center.

not to mention six-track dolby stereo!!!

The Empire is a good example of what’s wrong with movies today in the box office.

70mm I hope.
i agree. Ever since the 90’s and 2000’s this place has been Disneyfied.
did you see it in liemax or digital

hahahaha….they don’t do that at amc in rockaway until everyone leaves the theater and the film is over.
why john?
