@Darth_Vader444 If you go to Fandango or the AMC Lincoln Square website, you will see Justice League has an IMAX logo above its showtimes while SW8 has an IMAX3D logo — so IMAX = 2D and IMAX3D =3D
I went here to see Alien IMAX, and I went here because this is the only IMAX theater in the city showing Alien and I want to check out the new auditorium.
The interior design(entrance with blue lights, leather seats and IMAX lightening logos) are exactly the same as the Lincoln Square IMAX, and I believe the 12 channels sound system is also installed. And that’s it…Still the old digital projector, the same small screen(roughly the same size as the regular/standard screens(1-12 if I remember correctly and 13 is the RPX) of Regal Ewalk across the street, and I believe it’s not even a standard 1.90:1 IMAX screen, more like a 2.10:1)
Anyway, I’m still happy it got renovated :) But the Dolby cinema here is a better option and cheaper, and the Lincoln Square IMAX is the best option IMO… But right, they may not show the movie you want, just like Alien…
There is no row I. The row after H is J, not i. It goes like ABCDEFGHJKLM.
I went to this IMAX several times after the renovation, and those ceiling lights were always on. I guess those lights serve the same “purpose” as he EXIT signs – as long as the EXIT red lights are on, those ceiling lights will be on.
Besides the blue lights on the floor, I don’t know if anyone has noticed, they also left a row of the ceiling lights on after the movie started(Not sure if they are lights or holes). They are straightly above the EXIT signs near the two entrances. You could see them when you look up or look at the walls above the EXIT signs, especially during the dark scenes
Lincoln square is 100% completed imo, it’s the problems of laser IMAX. Other Laser IMAX theaters are also showing lego in 2D and will show Beauty and the Beasts in 2D for most of the show times. I think the IMAX corporation just realized how bad their 3D glasses are. I didn’t care about digital IMAX 2D or 3D before, but now I don’t want to see another movie in that heavy refelective glasses anymore.
If it’s true Dunkirk prologue was in 70mm IMAX, it’s extremely like Dunkirk will be in 70mm next summer. Still can’t believe they keep both 70mm and laser projector.
Imax123 – 70mm IMAX camera <=> 1.43 in Laser and 70mm, 1.90 in digital IMAX.
Alexa digital IMAX camera <=> 1.90 in both laser and digital(no 70mm version usually)
So 1.43 is always better than 1.90 because it means they are shot in 70mm camera.
Dolby cinema just has higher contrast ratio than laser IMAX. Resolution is about the same – but Dolby cinema’s screen is way smaller than Lincoln Square IMAX.
@Movie_Time you are right. Dolby cinema has darker blacks because it has a contrast ratio of 1million:1, which is more than 100 times higher than laser IMAX. IMO, Dolby cinema may have better picture quality and sound system(and seats), but I still think Lincoln Square laser IMAX is the best just because of the massive screen.
I like this theater too, especially after the recent renovation – big recliners, large screens, good prices. But they didn’t renovate the imax auditorium, it’s the same as before. It would be great if they also put recliners on imax. Laser imax is usually for 15/70mm imax screens(squared/tall screens), so I doubt the three lie-imax screens in Manhattan will get laser.
Fantastic Beasts will not fill the entire screen. You could actually check on IMDb->Technical Specs->Aspect Ratio, 1.44:1 = entire screen, 2.35:1/1.85:1 and all the other ratios = black bars top and bottom, and 1.85 is bigger than 2.35
I believe Dunkirk will be the next upcoming movie with such ratio.
According to the AMC guest service, this IMAX is planning to open this Friday, if this is the case, the tickets should be on sale tomorrow, maybe this midnight.
awesome! thanks for the new pics @ plagasX. the IMAX signs are so cool, especially the one inside the auditoritum. Can’t wait to sit on those leather chairs :)
I just saw it, and the visual is amazing. I would say the picture quality is even better than 70mm/laser IMAX and Dolby Cinema. Well, maybe they are not comparable since Billy’s source format is 4K/120fps, and the screen in King auditorium is small. The 3D is bright, and you can tell it’s real 3D. Although I don’t like the movie, the visual is a once in a life experience.wonder if they are going to keep that expensive projector in that old auditorium.
@plagasX Thanks for the awesome pictures! It looks really great. Can’t wait to go there next weekend for Fantastic Beasts. BTW, any chances they will be open this weekend? Looks like the rest of the work can be done in 2,3 days…Hope.

Dolby + Laser IMAX in one theater! That is very exciting! Hope this Dolby will get a bigger screen and better entrance design than empire 25

@plagasX Great! thanks for the info :)
@XapNoiro It’s awesome! the best picture I have seen! This gotta be the best theater in America. lol.
I went there today, there is no row I. I guess you just have to find an empty seat, shouldn’t be a problem given most showtimes are 90% empty.

@xbs2034 The first Laser IMAX showtime will be 9pm tonight.
@XapNoiro Laser IMAX can definitely do 3D, no idea why they do 2D for FB, but i believe majority of the future releases will be in 3D.

@FAShaffi if you haven’t been there before, the auditoriums on the second floor are awful – old seats, tight foot space and no stadium seating.
@Rmeister23 great great photos!!!! Thanks soooo much for taking them and sharing with us. Kind of disappointed that it looks nothing close to be done
wishing they can use recliners. Recliners + laser projectors + 100ft screen will make it a perfect auditorium lol.
