As of next Monday (December 9th), the first upgraded screens will re-open. These will include new Ultra Lux seats, the first Vue to have them in the country, as well as the first to have a self-serve retail area (I’m less enamoured by). Projection and sound are also being upgraded. https://theswindonian.co.uk/news/vue-swindon-undergoes-exciting-transformation/
News has broken that Odeon is going to be taking over this site - but not all of Showcase’s former space, apparently. What this means for the other Odeon in the town centre is uncertain. https://www.bristolpost.co.uk/whats-on/whats-on-news/uks-largest-cinema-brand-odeon-9744497

Currently still open while it has having a massive refit to upgrade to Vue’s trademark reclining seats at last. (Which I would have thought they’d do before it opened, but oh well.)
There’s been a fair bit of refurbishment in the last year, including improvements to NFT3, and the toilet area around NFT1 has been totally refurbished (the screen itself remains the same).
The Bristol Aquarium has rechristened this the “Bristol Megascreen”, which holds occasional screenings and the Forbidden Worlds Film Festival in May and October. https://www.bristolaquarium.co.uk/megascreen/about-us/
It appears squatters have caused substantial damage to the cinema since closing: https://walthamforestecho.co.uk/2023/09/11/walthamstow-empire-squatters-intend-to-stay-in-trashed-new-home/
The official Picturehouse account has two videos touring the cinema and the opening.

It isn’t open just yet, still renovating.
Great to see photos of the open day yesterday, so thanks Alan.
