Built as part of the Bristol Science Centre, the IMAX was opened in May 2000. The building also contained a Wildwalk attraction. It closed in April 2007.
In September 2009 the Wildwalk attraction was converted into an aquarium, with the IMAX cinema screening films. This closed in November 2011. The cinema is now used as an auditorium for the Bristol Science Centre and has been renamed Bristol Megascreen with occasional film screenings and the Forbidden Worlds Film Festival in May & October.
