yeah i recall it opening in the late 70s ..77 was first time i was there. i saw a bridge too far ..with my brother the next film a year and half later the animated lord of the rings xmas 78
i saw raiders of lost ark here in sept of 81..forgot or didnt notice the egyptian theme mentioned above…i went straight to the seats.. while roger and ronald and their friend david i think it was got snacks…roger said ronald tripped in the aisle with his popcorn or something to that effect….that was a great great movie. bot it had action all the way through it i said..by tdays standards..not..1st movie i saw brother tom took me to see king kong there..last movie i saw there again was with tom…dead man dont wear plaid june 82
last film i saw there was star wars [8 times or so] last time was september of 77 i think. im here cause i wish i could go back.. if others are also we must realize its also and probably more the people who helped make those memories..perhaps if some of those people r still living and are kind souls we should seek them out and say ‘'hey’‘ etc.
i will add ..we actually only pulled the alley doors open they were not locked at either theater…the only time us poor kids ever snuck in free at the rialto we got caught in 5 minutes…we didnt do any damage to either theater as well…i signed the 1980 petition to save the palace..but to no avail..shame.. there are so many empty lots downtown that the towrs could of been built on instead. just here cause im trying to find a pic of the rialto with star wars on the marquee
Winchurch…. i broke into the madison theater around febuary of 1980. me and a friend snuck into the madison[ many times] via the fire escape in the ally that led to the closed balcony. the movie that was playing was star trek 1..but we just snuck in to watch the trailer for empire strikes back , the trek movie was poor. we did end up staying until everyone left after closing..got bags of popcorn..and oddly enough also broke into the palace that night..maybe we got the popcorn there..we were only 16 or so..it was fun..last movie we saw at madison was blade runner.
