  • <p>The Northridge Earthquake that damaged the Saks Fifth Avenue anchor tenant store at the Promenade at Woodland Hills was demolished for this new-build AMC anchor that had 3,000 seats at opening costing $20 million. The venue had a soft launch week long schedule of events beginning on March 23 and 24, 1996 with “Singin' in the Rain,” “2001: Space Odyssey” and “Raging Bull”</p> <p>A Red Cross fundraiser on March 25, 1996 featured a screening of the Oscars live followed by a choice of “Babe,” “Sense and Sensibility,” “Apollo 13,” “Il Postino” and “Braveheart.” The next day films included “North by Northwest,” “Witness for the Prosecution,” “The Informer,” “The Harvey Girls,” “On the Town” and “Now Voyager.”</p> <p>On March 27, 1996, a lifetime salute to Janet Leigh brought the actress there with films on each of its screens including “Manchurian Candidate,” “Psycho” and “Bye Bye Birdie.” An ALS benefit screening occurred on March 28, 1996. Charity screenings of Bugs Bunny cartoons ran into the opening weekend with the venue opening for over 25 years beginning on March 29, 1996.</p>
