Seating capacity seems too small for the Darress in Boonton (which otherwise fits several of the listing points), anybody care to speculate what theatre this is? I would guess it’s not a movie theatre.
Word on the street is that the Baronet is re-opening this coming Friday (7/21). Films showing (not a double feature) are “Poseidon” and “The Notorious Bettie Page” at alternate times. Admission price is supposed to be $2 for all shows and the theatre will be open Friday, Saturday and Sunday.
Interesting that Orlando’s reply talks about replacing light bulbs and nothing about the installation/specifications of the film projection gear they are going to have.
Still no word on the showing of West Side Story announced back in April at the tour? It was scheduled for July 21 and it would be great to know of it’s still on as I’d need to get there from South Jersey.
“Times will be set by the week and start ontime by the computer. ”
Given the soulless dreck currently poured out every week by Hollywood, this seems appropriate. :)
I can’t wait for one of those computerized operations to crash when there’s a big show. The inability (due to computer control) to hold a show for 5 minutes because of large crowds will be fun to watch…
There is no air conditioning in the Loew’s Jersey.
From what I’ve been told by them, they’ve had the money (and a matching grant) to get it installed, but don’t feel it’s worthwhile yet. Frankly, after 10+ years of “renovations” and millions of dollars in donations and grants, the Loew’s Jersey project should be 100% finished by now. It’s staggering that, with all of the funding they’ve secured, the theatre is in worse shape now than it was when it first started running classic films in 2001.
Let’s hope they don’t run the reels out of order again…
BRAZIL has always shown theatrically with the current ending. They did prepare a “happy ending” version for some syndicated television showings, but this was never used in theaters.
The version the Loews Jersey is showing will be Gilliam’s longer final cut, which includes 11 minutes cut in 1986, but the ending will be as it always was.
I’ve been reading this thread with detached bemusement until I realized I can’t tell who is who any longer. Obviously, people are posting using similar-sounding names to confuse the issue – really, are there two “Debs” in this small community who just so happen to be posting? And every other person both for and against is using some form of “Dupe” (an apt nickname, actually). Get a grip, people, and please post a scorecard of names and “for” and “against” so that those of us laughing at you know just who you are.
I’m reminded of the great PLAN 9 FROM OUTER SPACE and the following quote: “All of you of Earth (Lombard) are idiots. Your stupid minds. Stupid! Stupid!”
Does anybody know if they are showing all of these films in 35mm prints? The website for the festival doesn’t say that formats being used at any of the venues and I dread the thought of trekking to SI to see a DVD.
I think I saw the reissues of the Hitchcock pictures that played in in 1993/84: Rear Window, Vertigo, Man Who Knew Too Much, Trouble with Harry, and Rope. I remember the theater being a little smaller than I expected, but the presentation at that time was nice.
They should fix that flyer – “The Good, the Bad, and the Ugly” isn’t based on “Yojimbo”.
“A Fistful of Dollars” was the one based on “Yojimbo” (uncredited).
Hi,
I was hoping to go to this concert, but the NYTOS website states that it has been cancelled.
Posted March 14, offer expired March 11,
Missed it by that much… :)
The Myspace page says that the shows this weekend and next are cancelled.
Were the films going to be in 35mm?
Are they showing the films in 35mm?
I guess the September movie is not happening. :( Should we hope for October?
Any word on if the mid-to-late September showing of West Side Story is taking place this month?
Here’s the website I found:
http://www.asburybaronet.com
I plan to be there for the Sunday matinee.
MikeH:
Look at my post on 7/18 – right above yours on that same date – for info.
Looking forward to getting up there for a show next weekend.

Thanks for getting the follow-up.

There’s nothing on the Paradise website about it.
Still no news about the scheduled movie of West Side Story on July 21?
I would have to guess it’s not happening – what gives, Orlando?
Less than two weeks to go – any word on the planned showing of West Side Story on July 21?

“The difference is the image is many times sharper, brighter and more even than with film.”
and
“Digital the best thing for drive-ins……big screen crisp pic to compare to tv is an outrage!”
This is incorrect. No currently available “digital” system looks as good as a properly projected 35mm print.
How are the plans for classic film shows progressing? (as noted in the April 20 posting).

The late not-so-great Ed Wood said it best:
“All of you of Lombard are idiots. Your stupid minds. Stupid! Stupid!”
Time for Plan 9 to be applied to Lombard, IL.

Jean-
Thanks for the reply, I saw it in 35mm last year at the Lafayette in Suffern, so I don’t think I’ll make the journey to S.I. for the DVD showing.
Please keep us informed when the 35mm projectors will be up and running as I look forward to seeing a film there.
