This was a really good drive in restaurant with free movies in the back. They had hanging speakers plus telephone polls on the ground to sit outside. Showed mostly B westerns.
The Victory Theater was sold to a Savannian in the late 1940’s. It closed in the late 60’s and became a disc in the 70’s. It burnt down in the late 70’s and is that vacant lot on Bull St near Popeye’s. It was a great neighborhood theater.
It was still going strong with first run pics in the late 60’s. My wife and I attended this theater often.
An excellent drive in that didn’t last long. The Downing address is correct.
In this picture, the Roxy Theater was where Woolworths is and the State was across the street where 1st Fed was.
The Star was on MLK, Jr. (formally West Broad St) and was torched during civil rights riots in the early 60’s.
I am surprised that this theater has not been saved.
It was located next to the famous Johnny Harris Restaurant.

Another theater in Savannah with the auditorium across the lane in the back(now a parking lot).
This is the Avon. The Roxy (my favorite dumpy theater)was on the corner of Abercorn and Broughton and became Woolworth’s.
