Closed on September 12, 1965 with “Sons Of Katie Elder” and “The Visit”.
That was fast, David, The Last season was in 1965
Opened with “Slave girl” and “Night in paradise”.
The Staten Island Drive-in theatre opened on May 29th, 1948. Its opening was delayed after the nearby airport protested its opening. Grand opening ad from the Advance posted.
600 cars. The site is now K-Mart.
The appropriate name for this location is Staten Island Drive-In. Fabian was the name of the operator.
Here’s an article from a recent S.I. Advance about bygone Island movie theaters. The Drive-In is mentioned; what I didn’t know is that it cost $350,000 to build. I remember my dad taking my mom, sister and me to the drive-in to see a Bing Crosby pic, “Say One For Me” back in 1959. The second feature (remember them?) was “Hercules Unchained.”

The Staten Island airport was to the right of the theater in the photo.
