The Strand Theatre was opened May 1, 1914. On September 15, 1925 it was taken over by Fabian Theatres and was renamed Capitol Theatre, screening Charles Chaplin in “The Gold Rush”. It was equipped with a theatre pipe organ which was opened by organist Vincent Falk. The Capitol Theatre played mostly move-overs from the larger Warner’s Branford Theatre, located immediately adjacent to the RKO Proctor’s Theatre, and only did really good business when Proctor’s was sold out. Closed in the mid-1950’s and became one of the first John’s Bargain Stores. It has been in retail use for many years and since 2017 the front section has been occupied by a beauty supply store named Hair Man. It is not known what use is made of the auditorium.
