Operating from 1941 to 1955 as an African-American theatre by the Bijou Amusement Company.. This is probably the last of the old segregated theatres still standing in the metro Nashville area. Remarkably many of the vestiges of when the building was a theatre, such as the ticket/concession stand, the projection booth, the stage, etc., still remain intact. The Gem Theatre has a neat and enticing feel to it. Definitely worth a visit.

Tlsloews you guys got some right nice movie theatres up there in Music City.
In checking this site out on the map I discovered an interesting tidbit that I never knew. This theater is on 1st Ave South but there is also a very short parallel street simply called 1st Avenue that only runs from Lafayette to Wharf Avenue. Both are more-or-less extensions of 1st Avenue which sort of plays out where Hermitage Ave begins.
So Cameron School is located between 1st Ave S and 1st Avenue. Odd!
