Osteen Theater

The Osteen Theatre opened as a single screen theatre in 1950. A second screen was added on April 9, 1976. Closed in November 1995 after some of the more modern theatres opened farther down the road. It has since been demolished and the lot is now used by a bank.

The Osteen re-opened briefly in June of 1995 with “Judge Dreadfull”, or was that “Judge Dredd”? At first only the original auditorium opened, but later the Osteen 2 also opened. The Osteen was not a true twin. There were two seperate theatres with seperate entrances and box offices. The Osteen two opened in the mid 1970’s. But due to low attendance and high costs the Osteen closed its doors for good in November of 1995.

I was there at the grand opening of the Osteen, to see “Underwater” with Jane Russell. Was also a regulator to their special kids shows where admission was a few bottle caps.

You hate to see those old special land marks disappear, but they do. Old West Market Street School is also gone, and it was such a special place.

Thanks

Earl
